I have referred a couple of people to the Australian Customs site as they do have a pdf document on there that covers these types of things. let me check and i will try to find the link. otherwise if you know a customs agent or the people you are dealing with recommend a freight forwarder they should help you out.

I have imported a secondhand boat/trailer. Cant see any difference with a new rig. Presume it s USA? Trailers have numbers just like here. You fill in a trailer import form, send it off , plus $50. You probably know that to import a tralier without a permit is a fine of $13,000 plus you have to pay to ship it back to the sender.
You get photos of the plates attached to the trailer and boat that have the VIN s etc send these with you application. Bit complicated becaus e the USA uses different terms, for towing masses etc. My shipping agent got all the measurements and filled the form in.

I presume you have discussed this with an agent they do this all the time.

Also you have to modify the trailer to get it registered here eg lights, over ride brakes.

Some guys just import the boat and buy a trailer here. Have it ready when the boat arrives.

Aren't US trailers an issue because they are 2.5 wide an aussie ones are only 2.3?

Why don't you just import the hull and get and aussie motor and trailer?

The credit given for a brand new trailer is no where near the value of what it costs to get a new easy tow trailer here. It's alot harder to transport te boat from point to point as I've looked into this avenue .

Has any one imported a brand spanker, not brand new from a showroom , but brand new as it hasn't been made yet ?

Thanks for all the responses do far.

In regards to the width. The trailer I'm looking at in under the Australian regulations

Not always. My Ranger Trailer was 2.48 so just snuck inside the width restriction. All I had to do was get a permit to move the trailer and get it over the pits. If you can, find a yard that will take delivery and will help make any mods required to get it over. Speak to the manufacturer as well. For WA, I got Ranger to do most mods and all I had to do was have the chains added once it got here.

I know it's different for each state, just be sure to check what you need.

Bear i take it your ranger was brand new ? that ws one of the things that drew to rangers was that they could make my trailer 100% compliant from factory for me
