I can recommend a Malibu Sierra; they have an open cockpit which has enough protection to hide your legs from the majority of the sun, are easy to outfit, paddle well and are quite stable. Because of the open design they give you the ability to bail out should you get into trouble going down rapids etc. I have given mine a beating on the various NSW bass rivers and it has been very durable.
