Is this where we need to clarify what we should be intending to do. I may also gain knowledge ,,and that's always good.

My block of pine is not to support the transom but to stop the motor jumping around.
The motor is secured to the transom,that is part of the boat.
The boat is secured to the trailer that is sometimes not secured to the road.
Everything moves as one ,,we have security.[/QUOTE]
when your on the road travelling, have a look at the boats, more so the motor as it moves and flexes the transom, when there hitting bumps ect, thats why i supported the motor from near the gearbox
