I'm gonna have a punt here. Without having done any testing of any sort besides fishing experiences, I'd say the rougher the braid is, the more resistant to abrasion it is. More limp and smooth braid seems to be prone to breakage when coming into contact with sharp surfaces.

Also, more expensive braids could be less abrasion resistant than cheap braid because cheap braid is often rough and well over the breaking lb ratings indicated which means they are even thicker.
