Equipment for 1st comp

hi
i was just wanted to find out what gear i would need for my first comp iam going in as a non-boater and will be taking two outfits.about 20 hardbodies in assorted colours and diving depths and a a fair ferw plastics which i feel can cover a lot of different circumstances.would there be anything else that i should take whether it be my own pair of pliers for example.
any help would be greatly appreciated.:)

Don't you have to take your own PFD?

big mumma 17-02-2004 09:08 PM

i think you are supposed to take your own pfd.

just take to the comp what you would need throughout a normal days fishing: pliers, braid snips, leader etc. as well as water, food..... the main thing ive heard from boaters is to not bring loads of equipment onto their boat ie. a couple of setups + the above.

thats the way ill be set up for my first tourny in Taree this year.

Daniel,

On the Friday evening during the briefing you will get to meet your boaters for the weekend. This is the time to ask them exactly how much gear you can bring along. Some boaters let you bring along as much gear as you possibly want, others, due to the size of their boats, limit you to 2 rods, a tackle bag and a food bag.

Again, ask if you need to bring along your own PFD and at the end of the day remember - offer petrol money to your boater. 99.9% of the time they will not take a cent but it always pays to make the offer  ,

Cheers,
Billy K:D

Gotta agree with this statement. I usually say no thanks, but it shows some appreciation of the efforts of the boater. I have experienced one non-boater so far that has offered me nothing. He will never be offered to have a fish out of my boat. The only time will be if i am unfortunate enough to score him again. I would not have taken any money from him, but it would have been nice if he offered.

During the Walpole i had the pleasure of having Robert B on my boat on the Sat. He brought doughnuts, sandwiches and drinks. At the end of the day he also tried to offer me petrol money, which I refused. Robert knows he is welcome on my boat any time.

A little courtesy goes a long way.

Cheers

Boater - Non-Boater

Does the boater to non-boater assignement get changed from the first to the second day?

Is the PFD just to have one onboard the boat or do we have to wear at all time during the comp?

What's a good non-encumbering PFD? I usually wear a tackle vest for estuary fishing and not sure how I'm going to fit a PFD over that.

i dont think we need to wear pfd when fishing. only when under power of the main engine. so i think we can get awway with wearing a cheap pfd. but dont take my word for it. if someone wiser could clear this up it would be apreciated. because i really dont want to spend $60+ for a spiffy life vest, when my cheap yellow one does the same thing.

Thanks....on the pfd bit...

How about the boater/non-boater assignment questions, can anyone enlighten me?

You can use the cheap yellow pfd's. They just don't make a fashion statement and are pretty uncomfortable to wear.

thanks for clearing that mim.

im gunna make an anti-fashion statement! hopefully it wont scare the fish away... wont be seeing me in flash columbia fishing apparel, mainly cause i cant afford it! and if i did id be tempted to rip the stupid tags off anyhow :)

u think there is room in fishing for an underground/subversive culture?;)

Squinty,

Join the IT Industry you'll get that many shirts, caps, etc., you won't need to buy many fishing outfits..... Mine consist of Microsoft, IBM, etc., lol
