It all depends on the budget, if it was unlimited I'd have to get a Stella 1000.

1st Shimano
2nd Okuma
3rd Abu

Thats how I feel......I reckon its hard to beat my Shimano Sahara 2000 (x2), the Okuma Epix comes close but its still no cigar :)

I tend not to have one.
I think a lot of reels within brands have their advantages and disadvantages, and many are only suited to one particular style of fishing.
For example, you may like Alveys for beach fishing, but at the same time you might prefer Shimano BR's for Snapper fishing - so which 'brand' is your fave, Shimano or Alvey?
I think brand loyalty isn't necessarily a good thing, reel choice should be made on individual merit and not just because it's a Shimano, Daiwa or whatever.

Sorry to stuff up your poll :) :) :)

I own both a Tica real and a Daiwa.
I like both, but i'd have to say the tica is just awesome.
If you haven't picked one up and had a look at one yet. I suggest you do!:D

For my bream spinning & other light threadline work I use an Okuma Epix & I love it. Other brands I use are Daiwa (baitcaster) & few Shimano threadlines, an Avon for blackfish & a few Penn Internationals from 10kg through to 24kg with my own drag modifications in them. I spin tuna & bottom bouce from my boat with Shimano Speedmaster overheads & for beach & rock fishing I stick with Alveys. Fly I use a System 2. I think thats about it.

I am a dyed in the wool tacklehead :D Also when you are a fitter machinist by trade drag systems & reel improvements are easy :D they are even easier when I was in charge of a whole machining section with the latest machinery & " The power of command on overtime" :D :D I wonder what the boss would have done if he knew I had toolmakers helping me improve drag systems on Saturday overtime at double time rates :D :D I also had the key to the board room beer fridge

Hi All

Now a days i think the quality of a lot of lesser known brands are excellent. Shimano i think have a more creative edge in their concepts and new moedls eg the BTR series which everyone has flogged.

On the other hand you need to think about weight of the reel you dont want a reel that weighs a ton on a beautifully light graphite stick. The weight will dampen the action of the rod and lessen the casting distance.

one more point i think is important is that bream will not spool you unless you have the drag off or spool arm open. Drag is not the most important iteam here as you usually have other ways of stopping bream for heading for cover (boat engines, 7ft sticks, heavier leaders). If you have a drag that stops bream dead in their tracks where would the fun be? If drag is an issue go for an overhead like an abu very nice drag very no inertia (no start up) silky smooth. If your really stressed about the drags oon your reel i remember reading an article that jack erskin was retro fitting abu with new and groovey washers.

Cheers
Stuie

PS i use a regal X and a Regal Z in both 1500 sizes small and very effective. i am looking at a Tica not sure which one, maybe a no name brand?

Hi people's
My favourite reel for breamin is a little ABU Cardinal Pro T1000F. This reel has copped a flogging and gets used on just about everything suitable and some things that aint. So far i have used it to catch trout, carp, bream, redfin, yellowbelly, whiting, snapper, salmon, estuary perch and a whole lot of others. For baitcasters i like the ABU's as well and for flyfishing I can't go past the waterworks ULA reel's.

Currently I am a Daiwa user. Used to use Shimano but I think they have just gone a bit to overboard with some of the prices.

Having said I use Daiwa's, I am always open to other brands.:D

ABU CD-3 and CD4 centredrag. Smooth and reliable, no backclash, very tight. RRP$125 with spare graphite spool, snatched at last Melb. fishing show for $42 ea.-discontinued.
Used to use simple no BB ABU (Cardinal or similar?)-lasted when others failed. Very impressed.
Cheers,
Alex

I use a Daiwa Whisker Tournament ss-700i, unbelievable reel, tiny, huge strength, great drag, still tight at 11 years. Popped it on a home-made 2kg IMX Loomis 5'6" with siC guides. I'll never leave her!

At the moment I use a Banax is800, very smooth and reliable after only 2 years of moderate use. Very shortly will be looking at the Okuma Epix range....

Hey all

First post since moving to sunny Esperance.

I used to use a Penn 4500 cause thats what I had when discovering bream on lures but I recently brought an Okuma Epix EFS20 and I love it, its light and smooth and well suited to my rod

Cheers

2 X Sustain 2000's
1 X Stradic 1000

The Sustains are a brilliant reel :)

Daiwas with tappered spool and air bail arms are the best reels because you have less problems with youre line being tangled. They are much more user friendly than any other reel on the market! I wouldnt buy any other reel these days when it comes to bream spin reels.

2 Shimano 1000FD Sustains just joined my other 4 Shimano's.
Fireline just flows off the spools, no extra loops coming away, even with new line. I'm impressed :)

Can't go past a new Sustain 1000 FD in terms of value-for-money. Still haven't been able to justify one yet... In the mean time my Biomaster is a better reel than my new Stradic.

Looks like it's Shimano for the bream reels... lighter, smaller, smooth. Next reel however will probably be a Capricorn 1500. Love the lack of plastic in my Millionaire CV-X and I can see that quality's there in the Capricorn.

I like daiwa reels the best because i think they are nice and smooth and they last along time. My dad has had his daiwa reels for over 30 years now. Also they are strong.

1 Shimano
2 Diawa
3 Mitchell.........I think the 308 is a nice little reel for the price $70.
