G'day to all,
Firstly thanks heaps to everyone involved in setting up and maintaining this website, having something like this has opened up a whole new world of possibilities as far as fishing goes for me, good on ya!
question time: Me and my mate have clocked up some serious hours chasing Black bream from the shores up and down the swan with limited success, he has been soaking bait while I have been using anything artificial, mainly hardbodied luwaz.
I think our patience might be our downfall as we tend to only give up on a spot if nothing is produced after 2,3 sometimes 4 hours.
My question is do successful shore based anglers have a set of loose rules which they use to guide their movements, firstly for when they will fish(night/day,tides,moon),secondly for which area of the river they will concentrait on and then how long to give an area before DohDohDohDohcanning it and moving on.
Anything would be greatly appreciated,
Saltydog:D

Mate as far as Land based goes, I am a boater so I am not very experienced in Land Based Options for Black Bream.
When I am out in the boat we rarely spend much time in the one spot, you basically thrash the crap out of a spot and move on. You need to be looking for fish holding structure and signs that the fish are around, holes where they have been digging for mussels and worms etc. Once you have Identified some where you have to get your lure in the strike zone (be comitted ) and keep it there as long as possible, painfully slow retrieve.
A great spot to try this out is Ascott Waters, you have bridges, sand flats (Try crossing to the Islands from the main Island side it would be a foot deep), drop offs , along the reeds the rock walls.
An outgoing tide is best (I think) but definately not Low tide, I prefer dawn and dusk and I believe the week before and after a full moon does something to them.
Luring for Bream can be very rewarding but also very frustrating at times, don't give up cause once you figure it out there is no going back it's like a drug and I am a junkie.
There are heaps of fella's on this site and even some Girls who are only to willing to help you nail em, Keep at it

Geoff

G`Day Salty, being a pt time shore basher myself, i try and find a area where I can work a few spots. For example a simple run would be Fisheries jetty in Sth Pth, Herrison Lakes, inlet and rock walls. Then maybe a walk through Ascot Waters. Another would be Guildford area where you can walk a fair distance working different areas, same as Redcliffe bridge area. Don`t spend to long in one spot and keep moving if there no action after 10 or so minutes. 1 fish would be the same as 3 from a boat.

cheers

Hi Salty, most of my fishing is landbased, I have found that it is best to travel light (eg. small pack strapped around the waist with lures & stuff ).
Find somewhere safe to park the car & start walking the banks putting 3 or 4 casts in & around any likly snags & then moving on to the next one.
