Get hold of some Squidgy finesse jig heads 1gm, push them into some playdoh to mould the shape, cut off the lead & put them back in the mould, mix some 2 part epoxy glue & pour it where the lead was. After it sets sand it back to the right shape. Used with flick baits & fished very slowly they are deadly, but lock your drag & hang on. Also liked using TT hidden weight jig heads the same way. I have heard the Squidgy resin heads will come out in a couple of months.

A few of the guys like bushy, slick, etc., are making the resin head themself at the moment, but it will come out later this year I believe...

You can use the method that Tymo suggested to make them, I'm experimenting with Polyurethane resin at the moment.....

But the TT HWS and Resin head works great with stick baits and other kind of sp's.........they produce different action though.....

bream addict,
I've got alot of different brands of jig heads in my bag from all over the place, in saying that i dont know which pack they came from since they are in my small jig head box, and i dont have a brand new pack with a label so their for dont know what brand they are, . makes sense to me,

it's quite easy to understand that i said i didn't know what brand they are, dont start a Sh,,it fight over nothing.

get the point.

cheers

:D

I had a go of the Squidgie Resin Heads at the Clyde ABT, I was quite impressed with them. They give a whole new action to bass minnows and the fish were quick to shoot out and check them out (although the legal sized Clyde bream are too bloody fussy to hit anything).

They're the exact same shape as the Finesse heads but are on the ball head hooks, which is a shame as they won't be suitable for tight country fishing where locked drags are needed.

Glenn, EJ Todd make a good 1/64 head which is ideal for 1" Craws and Nymphs. They're hard to source though.

What about if you used blue tac as a mould instead of play doe?
I find it very stirdy and withstands heat pretty well and makes for a good model to visualise what your gonna make.

So the Epoxy automaticly floats and you dont have to put air pockets in it?

Has anyone thought about using the soft floats by Shipton trading?

I have been fidling around with them lately but cant get solid hook ups for some reason.

I modify mine by cutting down the foam so that the SP sits more snug and looks better though.
You can get the most awsome action out of them.

I have no trouble getting hits when you rig them with stick baits but I cant seem to get actual hook ups.

Whats the go with surface jigheads? Do they have a bad hook up ratio or is it just me?

cheers, Nathan

Nath,
Those floating heads are good for EP's and bass, but the hooks open up if you put too much pressure on the fish.

Glenn, E.J.Todd are a fishing gear distributer (Sydney based I think), most shops here carry the stuff. They stopped making the 1/64oz a while back and it's hard to find now. I'm down to my last 100 or so of them.

Glenn,
I forgot to add that my non-boater on day 1 at the Clyde was best mates with Bushy, he let me try a few of the heads.

Ok.... well sounds like its back to making my own 1/64oz and 1/80oz then............... and resin heads................ but I haven't tried using bluetack yet... something new to try...

Also been playing around with hotglue.. work quite well but its not transparent like epoxy and other resin...........

Oh yer nearly forgot!
I made some surface lures out of dowl a while back and decided to give them a go on some nice brown trout that were rising that didnt wanna take anything else we offered including live crickets and i put one of them right over a rise and started the twitching retrieve back and this brown had a go at it 5 times in the one retrieve!
My heart was going nuts but the bugger wouldnt hook up and im sure he pulled the lure under about 3 times but i judt couldnt hook him.
Sorry its a bit off topic but the whole surface jigheads and bad hookups and all......

20-03-2005, 04:39 AM
dave, cod do the same thing, add a couple more split rings onto you hooks to drop the trebles down a lil bit, and don;t strike until u feel weight:D

cheers greg

Hi all. I've made jig heads out of polyurethane resin and also 5 minute Araldite. They both seem to work well and the araldite is heaps quicker. Haven't had any trouble with them at all. Any thoughts??
