Jig molds - where do you get 'em, what do you use??

Hi all,

I've seen the 'Do-It' molds on line but was wondering if anyone uses them and their feelings/experiences with them.

And... can you buy them over the counter here yet?? A store I know told me they're getting them in but can't say when.

This sort of thing really needs to be seen and played with a bit before purchase, hence I haven't ordered one in from the states as yet.

Dave, I think the moulds should be in the shops shortly. I was speaking to a guy from the company who is importing them about 6 weeks ago (Forgot what company it was). But he was finalising the first order.

I dont know how many shops will be carrying them as from what he was saying there are a lot of unhappy shops out there now that the moulds are being imported, as they will be losing some of their jig sales.

But at the end of the day I think most people will still be purchasing them as a lot of people dont want to play with lead with the health risks attached and the other thing is molten lead doesn't tickle:eek:

Hey Dave, talk to the Pukstar!
He uses do-it molds and gets good black nickle hooks from Steve Badman, not the crappy gold aberdeens from the US!
They sure do make a nice jig, and pay for themselves very soon.
Ask joe, and I'm sure we can all have a jig making session together.

Yeah my local tackle shop had them bout sold out i c if they have gotten any in yet :)

Hi Dave,

I bought an 8 x 1/16th Do-It mold via Bass Pro and while it takes a little practice you should be knocking out heaps of jigs in no time at all.
i wouldn't worry to much about ordering from overseas without actually seeing the mold. Just make sure you get the correct size and serial number by looking at the Do-It web site first.
As Richard mentioned I bought a batch of size 4 and 2' jig hooks off Steve Badman at Demon Jigs and they are proving to be great little hooks that fit my mold perfectly. They're a much better quality than the gold Eagle Claws, which do have a tendency to bend easily, and they have a lot sharper 'cone' style point as well.
Mick >> was the guy you mentioned connected to E J Todd by any chance?? I could be wrong, but I seem to remember they importing Do-It Molds now or in the future.

I think it was E.J Todd from memory. What type of hooks are the ones that you got from Steve and what was the damage for them.

Dave i also use the do-it mold, excellent moulds in my opinion. I got the model that takes size 6,4,2,2/0 hooks so producing say a whole batch of 1/16th is a bit time consuming but i have the flexibility to make jigs from 1/32 up to 3/8 ounce for flatties etc.
Hooks i use the bronze eagle claws and found them good, they are soft but will only went open when you get snagged up real good. Ive never had them fail on a fish yet.

The mould has paid for itself x2 by now i would say wouldnt be without one.

The jigs that come out are excellent and perfectly round with no burs, but its important to heat up the cast alloy mould over the gas for a little and the lead will flow much better when you pour it so you get the proper shape.

Guy;s I am lead to beleive that stock has been ordered of the Do-it moulds and will be available shortly. I am not exactly sure as to when but Frogley agencies the national distributor are awaiting their delivery I am fairly sure though that it will be this month sometime. They are NOT CHEAP but the quality is fantastic and will pay for themselves in no time.
Will will also be importing the Mustad Aberdean jig hooks, they are a sensational hook with a black nickle finish and a chemicaly sharpen needle point. Very easy to keep sharp and very rust resistant(not rust proof). I have seen the jig hooks and the moulds and I can say the quality very good.

They will be available in tackle stores late Jan early Feb(fingers crossed)
