how do i resize photos as mine dont seem to work

they need to be jpeg file and 500 X 500

have seen it done in paint i think as my mate set up my avatar but didnt pay attention and cant seem to master it.

Have a look at this link. You can download a free graphics program that does the job easily.

You need to open the phoo in a editor....photoshop etc.

Do this by right clicking and "open with" whatever program you lan to use.

then use the menu at the top to resize the pic. May be under "image" or something else.
