Nitlon all the way for me. Mostly in 4lb, 6lb and 8lb.

On the racks I sometimes use PVDF instead as it's got the best abrasion resistance I've found, bloody expensive though

ROCK FISH and RAZOR line is my choice and for a good reason.

I use Yamatoyo Razor and Harisu Fighter I think it is called - both yamatoyo and apparently 100% flurocarbon, but I have also heard its imitation also.. so not sure.

Both seem to hold up really well for abrasion, probably some of the best Ive come across. Look forward to getting hold of the Nitlon and giving that a go.

I only wish we got the good stuff here that the US and Japanese get, I have seen some and it is second to none - comes in 50m spools for the japanese and 25m spools for the US so they have to buy more.

cheers

Richo

Grand Max I think - maybe under some other name, saw a mate using it and it had come straight from the Asian Distributor for anything decent fishing wise.

It wont be in Aus I doubt.

Really hey ....
I would have thought the jap stuff we get here would be up there ... but obviously not. I mean how much harder wearing can lets say 4lb 100% fluro carbon made by other manufacturer's be? Unless of course there is a compromise on thickness?

Can yah describe this stuff richo?
And when u meant breammaster has it ... u meant the yama stuff right and not grand max stuff ?

There is Razor fluoro, fluoro Rock fish ( high abrasion resistance ) and Harris fighter. These are all Yamatoyo lines. I heard it is 100% fluoro, fill me in some more please Richo. Richo will you stop teasing me about this Grand Max.

Im using 8lb seaguar and platil as i dont have anything lighter but will be getting 6lb soon for less snaggy areas.

Might look at nitlon or the razor next.

Have experimented with vanish and didnt get a good batch so i might try again soon

Ocean to Outback is a tackle world retailer so any Bluewater store would be the best bet.

Hi flathead_boy,

Give Cranbourne tackle in Melb. a ring re: Nitlon (03) 95996 6500. I bought some 8 and 10 lbs from them over the phone with credit card and they charged me 3 bucks for the postage (within Melbourne though).
Anyway try them (ask for Jarrod).
Cheers,
Alex

vanish yes vanish cheap and poor vanish it really isnt that bad:D :D :D

IMO, vanish is pure crap if you are fishing bridge pylon's and dock's. It fray's too much and will break at about 1-2 pound of pressure after being nicked a little.

I just use that Juro mazzaferro monofilament because it is very abrasion resistant. Also a low visability to fish.

10lb scientific for heavy areas and 7 lb mamoi for more open, got to get some of that yamatoyo

Richo

Troy,

We may have thought we were getting the good stuff, but trust me when I say anything worthwhile dosnt even go near the Aus doorstep, which is disappointing but the yanks are 100 times the fanatics we are and everything is made to get $$ out of them, we just get whatever to keep us happy. Thats what it seems like anyway.

The distributor laughed when yama was mentioned as we were calling it the best stuff we`d come across, and he did actually say that it is imitation 100% fluro, meaning mono that is wrapped in fluro (I think thats what he meant) but that may answer why it breaks up different to other flurocarbon leader.

I still rate 6lb yama harisu and razor amongst any snaggy territory, more so than some of the apparent true 100% stuff. I couldnt even find grand max on a website. But I did like the fact the grand max had no memory and unmatched knot strength.......... I will have to keep using the yama I have until I find something better, for imitation I can rip like no tomorrow to get a snageged lure back and dont even bother checking the leader, used to check every time. Dont bother now unless it was super wrapped around a branch.

cheers

Hi Richo,

A few years back when I just started Breaming I found a Grand Max here in Melb. It was like $14 for 25 yards and I was very impressed with this stuff. I even posted here to find out what people think about it but had a very little response.
The guy in the store told me that a lot of fly fishermen are using it in England as a leader material and it's the best.

Anyhow, if you are still interested, pm me and I will check for you its availability when I can (a bit far from my place).
Cheers,
Alex

Well, back in Melbourne, I used to use 5lb Mamoi's fluroucarbon leader, very good stuff. High knot strength, high abrasion resistance, and I very much doubt fish can see it. It was only when I started using the stuff that I started to get consistent results of any kind. I even decided to use some of it up here in Townsville on the little trevally, and for the most part, it held up on them too. Really very good stuff.

Cheers,

Owen
