Has anyone used the new TT Jig's Hidden weight system (HWS)on Bass Minnows yet? I've ordered some and think they'll be just the ticket for some of the rock walls I fish where I need a slow horizontal sink rate and the fish are semi suspended ie less than 2ft below the surface.

I've given them a run mate - they work but I still think you're better off fishing unweighted in the environment you described. Unweighted you can do a lot more 'dancing' suspended on the spot so to speak.

I haven't seen any in shops yet but I have tried to make my own by wrapping some lead wire around jig hooks. You get a good slow horizontal sink, bass minnows will lazily spiral down the water column. The only thing I noticed is the bass minnow will tend swim on its side instead of riding hook up. Maybe the real deal won't have this issue.

Hi Dave,
will use the unweighted also, but I need some weight for casting distance and to counter wave wash. I also find that if I cast to a likely area and there isn't a fish there I can let the lure sink in between boulders further ot and have caught good bream that way. It covers two water columns with the one cast. i suppose a lot of things are a compromise. I've been using the 1/20th jig head with good success but I think the HWS will be ideal.
Stock of TT jigs have been scarce, and I reckon the recent Sydney comp would have depleted stocks too. Agents have informed me they should be hitting the shelves to normal stock levels soon.

Sounds good mate - I normally just add some tungsten putty to my unweighted and keep going...... That stuff is great ;)
I gave them ago yesterday in one of the lakes down the Gold Coast but due to the 15-20knot winds I changed over to 1/32. They match up to the bass minnow really well and I'm looking forward to giving them a real go when theres not much wind around.

If you're gonna go the DIY route then I suggest you use jig hooks, either 90 degree or 60 degree jobbies. Offsetting the line tie from the weight is what keeps the bait straight on the fall.

I've given the HWS heads a good run now and have come to the conclusion that I prefer unweighted every time.
The HWS jigs sink head first, they don't "waft" like an unweighted bassminnow. Also, the tow-point on top means that they don't get the same eradic twitch as you do with a worm hook.

If the area you're fishing have wash, etc., then HWS and similar variant will be the way to go.. if the water is fairly still or the fish is feeding on the surface or just below then I would go for unweighted.....
