Hey all
I want to buy a pair of spotters and just wanted to confirm what i have concluded from other posts on here. It seems that most people think the best lens style is the penetrator photochromic bronze... is this correct?

Also, does anyone know anywhere in brisbane which has a large range of spotters...

Thanks
Matt

gday matt,
i dont know whether your budget caters for these but the best sunnies for outdoors work are the maui jim range. i have a pair of maui jim sport and they are possibly the best polarized lens i have ever seen. they have something like 9 layers in their lens and are lightweight. ive found them to be perfect if your on the water a bit but a good pair will set you back $220 plus. spotters are prolly alright too.

Hey Matt,

"Bright Eyes" sunnies shops in the shopping centres carry Spotters, but tend to have only a couple of the better fishing styles and more of the "fashion" styles.

What part of Brissy are you in? I was at "Captain Bligh's" a few days ago and they had a reasonable range of Spotters. I guess a few of the other tackle shops also have them.

cheers,
Tony

Down the southside of Brisbane, Matt. Slacks Creek. It's near Springwood and Underwood.

They are good guys.

After owning both Maui-Jims (a honeymoon present from my wife) that cost almost $400, and now my Spotters, I've got to say that they both are faaantastic sunnies - I only had the Maui-Jims for a year, they're now residing on the bottom of the Hawkesbury River, my wife was very unimpressed:rolleyes:

I went with the light blue 'Crush' frames and Penetrator Gold lenses over the Photochromic ones - I just liked them better:)

I can't find a price in AUD at all. They are around $200USD there in the States.

Here's an interesting article. If the yachties are using them, you can expect them to be expensive. http://www.boatingoz.com.au/news03/0117.htm

"AUSTRALIA'S TOP SAILORS WINNING WITH NEW POLARISED SUNGLASS TECHNOLOGY

In a sport where reading the conditions is key, Australia's top sailors are discovering a new polarisation technology - and it's creating a strong advantage.

Yesterday's win by Chris Nicholson in the Australian 49er Championship at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club and recent wins by Iain Murray in the Pittwater to Coffs on Wild Oats and Nathan Wilmot and Malcolm Page in the 470 Gold for Gold Series share one common element - utilising a new polarised sunglass technology from Kaenon Polarized™ sunglasses."

up around the $400 mark

the thing i found interesting about them is the lenses dont have a polarising film on them like normal. the polarising medium is mixed into the plastic and then they are pressed into the lens shape. i have no idea how they do it but it sure does work

What on earth do yacht people see with these that they can't with other glasses? Maybe the cold drinks waiting behind the mirror tinted windows of the club house?
