How are these names determined? is it by age? or is it by how long you have been a member/ amount of posts you have made? can it be changed?
Cheers

I've searched hi & lo for how I changed the moniker and for the life of me I can't find it.
Maybe the web designer has disabled that feature.
Because it WAS definetly there.

'Patterson River' / 'Patterson Lakes' there is a difference.
pete s
08-02-2003, 07:36 PM
correct me if im wrong but the river has public access but the lakes do not, hence a boat is essential :( :(
Chris_Macca
08-02-2003, 07:43 PM
yeah thats right. Unless you know someone who lives in there you can't fish it.

LOCATION
Only 30 kilometres from Melbourne, and only 10 kilometres from Frankston, the Patterson Lakes is easily reached for most metropolitan-based anglers. Anglers who drive can drive to the Patterson River on the Nepean Highway. The relevant Melways reference is Map 99

anothe exerpt,
PERSONALLY SPEAKING...
Personally speaking, the Patterson Lakes is my favourite local waterway, simply because it is the best bream fishery located close to me. I normally head down to the Lakes after school on Friday afternoons or early on weekend mornings. Increasingly I have been arriving at my favourite land based spot around midday on Sundays, with reasonable result. I have only not caught a fish once; now that is pretty good results!
The Patterson River complex is a favourite spot of mine for another reason, because it has provided me with my best bream to date. This fish weighed around 2 pounds. Not bad for only my first trip there! I used fresh a fresh mussel, in conjunction with a berley comprising of breadcrumbs and tuna oil. This fish was taken at about 8:00am, and fought hard for approximately 15 minutes, Absolute chaos was caused when I realised my drag was not properly set; luckily I did not have my reel handle lock on!

yeah and? you cannot fish patterson lakes unless using a boat.
But of course you live here dont you?!

yeah mate that is mark bolgers article. i personally speak to him and his mate lives on the lakes so thats how he fishes it. you can't just walk in on private property and fish (ie: vacant blocks).

Don't get rude Chris.
The question is "Is Patterson Lakes a private fishing area.
Meaning not open to the public.
Because if you reckon that it isn't open to the public I suggest that you contact Fish Victoria and get them to revise there publications that they publish on Patterson Lakes. Because they say that it is open to the public :)

all that was written by fish victoria was that a bloke used to go fishing there after school and it was his favourite bream location. but he had someone he knew who let him fish the lakes from their house/ and he ventured out from there. thats all i am saying.

So Chris can the PUBLIC fish Patterson Lakes ?
Chris_Macca
08-02-2003, 08:21 PM
the only way would be by boat, i guess. there is no otherway. plus the patterson river is also a good option because it contains the same fish and is easily accessible.

I personally wouldn't fish in a man made canal if you paid me to.
I've been to the lakes and there definately not for me, way, way to damn artificial.
The river thats pretty nice water to fish. But the man made stuff sucks even though there is a few fish in there.
On hot days there is a definate bad odour that comes out of the man made lakes that is a real turn off, I wouldn't eat any fish out of them. The few fish that I have cleaned from them have been really soft and mushy.
And don't let anyone tell you that its "private" thats a lot of bulldust, its public waterways and anyone can fish those waters but the question remains "why would you want to".

There is some really beautiful houses around the Lakes and I'd rather live there than in Melbournes suburbs, but for fishing give me the river any day!!!
The Lakes don't get enough of a flushing to stay clean which is a real shame they should open it up a bit and try to get more of an exchange of fresh water in them.
But they do smell on really hot days :(

Hi Mim,
We own the house next door to us aswell and its for holiday rental.
http://www.shoalhaven.net.au/~jimjen/
But seriuosly if any Breammaster people cruised past withut dropping in and going for a fish I would be very disapointed.
So if anyone is going past here is your chance of a few nights free accomadation in a really beautiful place and you can even bring your dog along :)
JP, Tildy and I are planning on cruising round Aus when I have finished my masters. Hope that offer still holds in 2 yrs time?
Cheers,
Mim

Heh I forgot to say. Only last week I was watching 'grumpier old men' (dont ask) and boy was I envying their lifestyle. Lake out the door like you and a chance to fish every day which that old guy does...
Almost better than watching rex hunt

Nice Pics LCF, and I reckon some investigation of those lower sand flats would be worthwhile, with a 52 and 68 R11 scorp, and see if there are any balckies down there.
Chris are you actually from Patterson Lakes??? or are you a WA lad.

Thats cool Chris, the anonymity of the internet makes it seem like sometimes someone is having a go at you when in fact there not.
Thats whats so good about this site and the fact that you can interpose smilies between your lines and at the end of lines.
So I'll let you know now what my mood is Ok

what comes after mature bream MMM goood question?
dinner?
Hey Jim
nice shots nice place. im in middle of suburbia in Melb I went to the local park with the flyrod to get some practice in and i nearly landed this mini horse thing (some people call it a dog)... crazy. I think i like the look of water than a fence.
The BB idea sounds like a good idea and great location for fish nuts
Cheers
Stuie
Long live mature bream like Jim :)

Hey guys a bit off the original topic.
but i have been "fishing" at patterson river (on the river) and wanted to fish the lake part but was told the sand shore was owned by the land"owner" but the water was not.
hence fish in the water = ok
fish on anyone's land = not ok.
so i have never been able to fish the lake.
Chris would you be able to give me some hints on where to fish the patto river. Since i aint havint much luck, with bait or plastics.
Regards Ben
P.S i dont live there i just drive 30-45 min after work to get a line in!
