Anyone been doing any trolling from your yaks? I've started of late and am quite enjoying it, especially running with the tide. I've just been using soft plastics and the Squidgie Wrigglers (Bloodworm) and Altomic 2" Grubs (Crawdad) seem to attract the fish.

G day Trollers, Love this aspect of fishing. If a fish isn't about you're getting a paddle in, and just taking in the serenity. Mostly I'm into the hard bodies and metals, but I'm working on running an SP tied off behind a HB for the double whammy. I also want to give the flies a go like this, but it's all a work in progress. As far as the strategies go, a few S's in my trolling run or using stop/start paddling can bring on a strike. Any other tactical suggestions here? Sorry if I'm banging on here gents, but it's a bit of a "nerds" passion to see what the cat drags up. :D ;) :D

I personally havent had any success with trolling but i have trolled hb's before. You have to go really slow- and even slower for sp's which i havent tried.
Zac 87 has trolled before in our local water and said he has had some good success.
I havent taken my yak fishing since i bought my boat

Brad - you're letting the side down! Don't go over to the dark side...mind you we have a 20 knot southerly here today and I'm not that keen to take the yak out :(
Poddy, intetresting using the hard/soft combo. I hadn't thought of that. I'm getting more into the trolling. Fighting the tide + wind alongside a snag hunting for bream can be quite foreboding. I have been trying two lines out the back but can get a bit touchy especially when one hooks up and the yak drifts around. I think one is best.
I've had some huge hits using a bloodworm squidgy but still struggling to get the hookups on a consistent basis. My local eustury spat out some Long-Tom yesterday, unbelievable acrobatics! It continues to amaze me that fish of that size and strength are in there.

You might get some better hookups if you rig up a trailing treble or single 'stinger' type hook.
Its basically a bit of line tied to the jig that trails back to the tail of the lure and has a hood on the end of it.
Im thinking of taking my yak out today for a paddle in our river. My boat has sealant dryig on the new bungs i installed.
Will post some pics when i get home.
