Do a search on the subject Brad, therse plenty of stuff on it. Dont quote me , but from what I understand , if theres too many amps going into the battery as it nears full, there is an increased risk of sulfiting the plates which shortens the life of the batt, and its particularly so for the deep cycle batts. This is why the real thing is an auto charger that drops amps as it goes (thats what I bought - 10amp truecharge fully auto 3 stage that drops amps as the battery fills and then you leave the battery connected and the charger checks on it every so often and dribbles a bit in if it detects a drop). But like I said do a search, theres a whole pile of smart dudes that really know what there talking about on this site!
