Fireline knot

Hey guys, I'm going to be doing some live baiting for trevally and jacks with 14lb Fireline. This means I will need to attach the Fireline to a swivel, rather than straight to mono like I usually would for breaming. What is the best knot to use, and how many turns etc. Cheers, Wazza.

Is there any reason you attach a swivel instead of a normal leader knot?

Try an llbright knot. Its a rippa. Nice and easy to tie and wont let you down.

The swivel would act as a stop for a small sinker, as well as reducing line twist with an erratic herring or poddy mullet on the end.

theres a little pamplet in the box wen u buy fireline that shows wat knot to use.

I'm pretty sure ud b able to first tie a bimini twist then connect the double to the swivel with a cats paw. If u have the AFN Encyclopedia of Australian Fishing on pg 22 at the top of the page it shows u the knot, otherwise try looking up the knot on the internet. Looks like a decent knot.

Uni-Knot or the Palomar knot, simple knots u can tie it in ur sleep and it works :cool: as shown on the pamphlet in the fireline box.

The bimini twist followed by the cats paw as mentioned by sir_cast_alot works well too... it just takes a little longer to tie! :)

Why not simply set up the same as you would for bream. Fire line to a leader with a swivel on the end of that. If you want to swap over to lures then it's simply a matter of cutting off the swivel and attaching your lure straight to a leader. Less wasted tying and retying this way.

Yeah, cheers guys, was thinking along those lines. Just thought there might be a secret for staying connected to hard fighting fish with a swivel involved.

Thought about that too Magic, creates an extra knot (and posible breaking point) though, and I'll probably have a second rod setup for lures anyway.

What I would do if I were you is use an Improved Albright to connect your 14lb Fireline to a 25lb mono leader (maybe a metres length or metre and a half). Then connect the leader to the swivel and that acts as a shock absorber as well. For some reason I don't like tying fireline straight to terminal tackle ie. swivels, hooks etc. One is because mono line tends to wrap itself around fireline when it is twisting in the water and fireline being like thread doesn't free itself because it has no memory. The other reason (to a slighter extent) is visibility. Fireline (even ghost grey coloured ones) are more visible than mono because of refractive index so the mon helps. I prefer using fluorocarbon as leader for that reason. Hey.. anyhting helps
