I mentiond once before about making sure your non- boater knows how to operate your boat this is why.

John Jones was launching his boat while craig s and I were waiting. He backed it in and Richo just stood there as it started to float away, I said "Bloody non-boater quick grab it" so he dived in and started floating away. He got himself togethor and asked me to motor over and get him, I said "Dry your eyes princess, drop the Kota and drive over". He started to muck around with it when J.J. turned up and said "If you can't do it start the motor and run her over".
Richo pulled the cord and not being familiar with the motor put it in gear without realizing and started going forward, we watched for 30 sec without saying a word (as all good mates do). We realized he was totally oblivious to the motion as he was still looking for the gear lever to drive her forward. WE startted yelling to reverse and he panicked, throttled on and drove her up the bank. We were pissing ourselves laughing and then i took J.J. over so he could salvage his boat and comfort poor Richo.
Very Funny to watch

In Richo's defence, I know he was caught short by unfamiliarity with that boat. He's a non-boater like me but the one boat he's experienced with has reverse gear on the side while Johns has it near the throttle. When we yelled for REVERSE he was looking for it but somebody had just moved it to a different place.

Thank god it wasnt me because I'd have probably done the same:)

Richo drove my boat for about half the time on day two at Walpole and he was fine, no problems at all

I saw that and I know he's better with a boat than me (ask JP about how close the prop on his brand new motor came to a tree while I was in charge!)

I think JJ's o/b is a Mercury? and this is the only one with controls on the throttle? Geoff has a Yammy with the lever on the side.

And while it still occurs to me - I was Ira's non-boater in my first comp at Mandurah. At that time I was so imcompetent to be in charge of driving that I knocked it back when Ira asked me if I wanted to take it for a putt.:)

I know the photo is a bit of a laugh in its own right butI think all of this just goes to reinforce that earlier forum discussion about non-boaters at least getting basic boating instruction.

Don't worry about it Richo - If we were all honest I don't think there is any of us who haven't gunned it in the wrong gear at one stage..... still got the scratches to prove it:D

Cheers Dave,

I had a huge laugh myself when doing it, if it wasn`t in gear when I started it, I probably wouldn`t have launched it up the reeds, i really did think there was a drive thru around there for macca`s :D

But unlike some, I do listen to any advice given to me regardless of how stupid it sounds, especially when boating. And I had a ball being part time boater on the Sunday with Ira, If I can learn something new everytime Im out then Im a happy man and I did on Sunday. But without help and constructive criticism (with explanation) from others, guys like myself would probably never purchase a boat, let alone drive one.

cheers

richo:p

If it makes you feel better Richo remember I still have a 25 yamaha CV motor thats 1 hour old on the bottom of melville water. We all have accidents and I hope that using you as an egsample didn't hurt too much, we need to make sure that boating is safe.
So you all know I would trust Richo to borrow my boat and take it out all on his own, He knows how to handle it because I have shown him.
I love fishing with Richo and Craig and I consider them both to be my best mates.

Don't sweat it Richo, lucky you didn't see me bogged in from of the Deep River ramp.

Hey Geoff, next time I reckon we just smother him if he snores like that again :D

My wife normally pokes me with a stick - stops the snoring pretty quick, probably because I'm yelling at her:rolleyes: :D
