Interested in what other fish types people have caught and where they have had success other than river/estuary :)
I have caught flounder, skippy, tailor and herring in and around rock groynes in the harbour. At the moment it is full of small tailor so im thinking mulloway would be around
The majority of southern Estuary species have taken my softie's over time:
Bream
Flathead
Whiting
Trevally
Tailor
Salmon
Flounder
Red Gurnard
Luderick
Silver Biddy
Kingfish
Two glaring ommisions for me - Bass and Jewfish
Add to this list Trout and Golden Perch and I have covered most of the southern species. I would love to also add Estuary Perch to this list but have never actively targetted them.
Cheers

My list is similar to Matts, but add:
Squid (yeah I know it's not a fish:D )
Drummer
Silver Perch
Murray Cod
Redfin
Leather Jacket
I can't remember the rest....
Some red offshore thingies that I dont know what they were.
I think that's all.
I haven't got a Kingie yet - maybe this weekend
:D
Here's a pic of the red thing - any guesses??
trout
flathead
blowies :-)
Barra and lots of them
tarwhine
whiting
Wish I had a few of the colours I use Breamin' when I was Barra fishing. Would have been interesting with a 3 inch grub.

There is a spot close to dunsborough that has wall to wall whiting. Known funnily enough as the whiting factory:)
meant to be going back there and they should love a slider. Maybe atteched to a dropper rig coz the spot is in about 8-10 meters of water. Think that will work? or suggestions

Ira I did see your article on the Kalgan and it looked hot, the action seemed nonstop.
The mulloway that were caught were what got me thinking that I could try it around here. ATM the biggest soft plastic I have is a 3" glow curly tail. Maybe a shad is the go

HEey Bream JR, that jighead you are using is probly a bit heavier then what is needed. I would recommend 1/16 or possibly 1/32 jigs. How deep is the area's were you usually fish? the spots I go to are usually shallow so prefer the 1/32 but they lacks a bit of casting.
Give the 1/16 jigs a go BreamJR and then go from there. hope that is helpful :)

Its difficult to tell from that piccy but Im pretty sure its not a
goatfish - If it is then it will have a pair of barbels on its "chin" hehe.... Do fish have a chin?
It could be a halfbanded sea perch or something similar - they're quite common on rocky reefs. Have you got any other pics of it?
On second glance it does actually look like thats what it could be.
Thanks

No more piccies Matt.
I'll just call it Dave's Red Thing - maybe I can get it into popular usage - SOmeone catches a fish, "hey, that's a Dave's Red Thing" :D

Heya all,
One fish I have noticed that isnt on the list (unless I missed it) is Mulloway. Im pretty sure some one has caught them.
Back when I was livingin South Australia we used to hit the Coorong (mouth of the Murray) and use 6 inch Mr Twisters (usually pink) and toss them out on a 2-4 ouch jig head.
These things were brusiers but it was sure as hell a good way to catch 20kg plus jewies.
My first ever fish on a softie was a 14kg jewie.
Also spaniards and sharkies will take them but be warned you will only get 1 fish per softie :)
We just got back from Jurien Bay. We took the boat out when we didnt have gale force winds.
My first cast got me a bull herring. Second cast a 40cm snook.
JP took a few more casts before he hooked up to a snook too. He brought the whole school under the boat. I just kept dropping my Squidgee gold shad and brining them in. We ended up with over 20 of em. We put a lot back, but gee they made a nice christmas dinner.
W also managed to catch rock cod, silver bream and slimey mackerel by the bucket load. The sea lions enjoyed those as we tried to put them back in the water.
The classic catch was by my daughter, bringing in a silver bream on a softy the seal grabbed it, she ended up almost landing the sea lion on the jetty
