Another FNG

Hi Guys & Girls,

My first post here to introduce myself.

I've been fishing for about 4 months now. Never too late to start they say. Took it up to occupy myself after I blew my knee out surfing. Best thing I've done for ages and am totally addicted to it. Love Bream fishing. The buggers are so crafty and fight hard.

My personal best is a 32cm half kilo fish from the causeway city side on boney herring using a little ugly stick spooled with 12lb berkley mono. I usually have 8lb platapus mono on the spool but have been doing a little offshore fishing.

I'm hangin out for my first kilo plus fish to bend the rod and set the heart pumping. If any one wants company during the week for a fish I'm retired (ex army on a veterans pension) and available most times and would love to get out and have some social contact while catching fish.

Welcome Gregstar. Time to buy some sp's and lures mate you will never look back. Hope to see you out there. BTW the causeway was absolutely teeming with Bream 2 weekends ago. Caught 12 between us in a couple of hours (boat). Half were over 30. Best Bream session I've ever had.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the warm welcome. And Angry if your up for it when you get back I'd love to get amoungst em with you.

I've tried some soft plastics (Atomic grubs I think they are) with no success. The blowies seem to love biting off their tails though. That was at the Canning Bridge.

I must admit being a little perplexed seeing pictures of big fish being caught with lures and the like. Would I be right in thinking success with lures and softies is more likely from a boat. Mind you I think my technique leaves a lot to be desired and I definitely need some coaching in that area.

Ahhhh so much to learn and so little time to do it in. Good to see all the ex servicemen in the forum too!

Don't be mistaken Greg plenty of Bream are caught shore bashing with both softies and HB's. Start reading mate; there's about six months of solid reading on these boards with info on techniques etc etc etc. Boats are a handy tool no doubt but you can cover a lot of ground on shore too. Rule No1: keep moving. It's not unusual for me to walk 4-5km in an afternoon along the banks in search of the allusive and wily bream. Rule No2: travel light
