WA Grand Finalists (boaters)

I have just returned from my honeymoon in Queensland. While I was there I drove over the border to Tweed and did my boaters licence. For the guys from WA who have to get theirs, if you read the NSW Waterways booklet and can answer the questions in the back you should not have any problems. Most of it is common sense but there are a couple of questions that you need to read carefully.
Also don`t assume that if you know all the rules and regulations for WA that you don`t need to read the book, because some of the laws seem to differ from ours, mainly when it comes to safe distances.
The licence costs $59 a year. You can renew the licence within 2 years without having to sit the test again.

Hi guys,

I just got off the phone to Waterways in Forster. I found out that we do not need to book in to sit our licence test, we can just turn up at the office, as this will be a quiet time of year for them.

I have also got a few copies of the handbook being sent over to me, so if anyone wants a copy just let me know and I will organise getting you a copy.

Hey Guys

I am heading over that way in a few weeks time and looking forward to exploring the Forster area.

What do you reckon is the bests way to transport you rods?

I was thinking about just getting some pvc piping with some caps on the end and chuck it in my surfboard bag - any thoughts?

doctor bromley pvc should be fine just make sure your rods cant move around inside it. took mine to tasmania inside a length we drove 3 hours to the middle of nowhere and i open it to find my fly rod broken:mad: :mad: :rolleyes:

Just make sure you have some cushioning in the ends to protect the tips.

When i take rods on the plane they go in a pvc pipe, but i always tape the rods to the side so there is no movement at all, this way the tips are fine and dont jar when they get handled badly.


You can also cut the pvc pipe long ways and put hinges on it so it splits, and this is a very easy way to handle rods and know they wont move, just use heaps of tape. and make sure you lable the pipe with fragile stickers.

Thanks Guys - can't rely on "fragile" stickers.

Took a few surfboards to Bali a few years ago and both got the noses broken off. Another time one of the fins broke!

Sometimes I wonder if they do it on purpose????

Doc, - Ive had mates who work for the airlines (in baggage) and had them tell me of stories of baggage handlers chucking every box that said "fragile" across the room with comment "we`ll see how well this is packed" and they aint afraid of giving the odd package the boot either, fragile stickers do on occassions seem to set them off........ Its quite off but it does happen, that I can confirm.
