Hey guys just purchased new poly 4.1 tiller with 40 hp 3 cylinder yamy. Havent had it in the water yet. I noticed that the engine trim was on the bottom hole (lowest setting) and its looks like it should be higher. Because of the design of the hull at the back of the poly, you cannot simply remove the pins and put it up higher. You dont have enough room to pull the pin all the way out. The engine is bolted on so removing the engine isnt the easiest task.
PS the company that i purchased the boat from said they would refit the engine at the 1st service if i have any problems.
The only problem i can see is not having the flexibility of moving the pin, given that load, conditions may vary.
Any advice appreciated

Interesting problem that, Can't say I've heard it mentioned before (trouble maker:D ).
There a quite a few poly owners on here, so someone should have an Idea.
Without actually loking at the problem, the only idea that comes to mind would be replacing the single long pin with 2 shorter pit pins and putting them in from either side. I don't know how to the decribe the pit pins other than they are have a little button on the end that when pushed lets little ball bearings free so you can slide it in and out. Don't know how they would handle the salt water, but worth a look.
Let us know how you go.

Rat,
I know the problem you are talking about, I have a tohatsu 40 on my poly and can just get the pin out. Im not sure what you can do maybe Angry has a good idea, Get your dealer to sort out the problem as you should be able to adjust the motor trim without removing the motor.
As for trim angle my cav plate is parallel to the bottom of the hull. I havnt had a chance to play around with it yet ive been to busy but i would like to lift it a notch or two to see how it effects the performance.
Anyway how about a couple of pics of the new toy?
Cheers

Thanks for the response angry/chris.
I will canvas the issue with the dealer on the first service. I cant see it being too difficult in having 2 smaller pins that lock in somehow. I will tell the dealer that i want to be able to adjust the trim. Rather that take the engine off, they could just cut the pin. Worst case scenario i will get some short pins made.
Hey chris what sought of speed you get out of the poly 1 up with the 40 hp. I will post some pics in a couple of days, just finished carpeting the boat.

Hi
I know what you mean - but my problem is easier with a 10hp on a 3m Polycraft tuff tender. I could just lift it off and re-set.
Seeing you don't have an electric trim (which solves the whole problem, and was probably expected in the boat design) then two. quality short pins is the answer. Try a major bolt shop - they will know what strength and grade of stainless you need.
I am not sure - but you talked about raising the height as well?
Polycraft makes it easy. If its a small amount then just a block of plastic on top of the metal transom would do it. I glued mine on with sikaflex.
For more height, the whole transom metal plate unbolts - raise it up, drill new holes and re bolt -
- these boats are so easy to work on, but I am amazed how so many people with a heap more experience than me, cannot think outside the square.
I made a few inventions - just went to a plastic welder, showed them just what I wanted - mocked up with cardboard and tape, and they made it happen. And now I have apparently amazed the staff at the dealers. Basically you have a lot more flexibility than some people would have you believe, because they are still thinking aluminium.
PM me any time if you have a fitout questions - I may get all creative again.

any photo's gary.
Even though I ended up very happily buying the Elegant. I had a poly craft at the top of my list for quite a while. I had a lot of ideas on decking out both the 410 and 455 for bream work, using combinations of plastic and plastic welding. Would be interested to see your fitt out.
