Hi Mike,
Curt Blanksby won the first heat of WA B.R.E.A.M. using pumpkinseed sliders. His retreive was a very small twitch followed by a pause while the lure settled back to the bottom.
He said in most cases they picked it off the bottom. Pete (stonefish) just won the second round over here using an erratic jerk and pause approach. This was on Muscadine sliders.
Pete will probably pop in at some stage and give us some insight to his techniques with sliders.
Warren.

Yep the pause is the key:)
Slow hops or twitches combined with pausing (anything up to 20 seconds or so) usually does the trick for me, even just 'dead sticking' the jig (no movement at all) works well at times.
During the pause, keep a close eye on the line where it enters the water - any movement at all, STRIKE! (but not toooo hard)
Hence the reason I love yellow Fireline, makes it much easier to pick up soft takes.
Persevere, once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature:)
Cheers,

Sliders still going well around town too, particularly muscadine and pumpkinseed.
As an added bonus I've always got a much better cast out of a slider.

when the waters a bit dirty after rain i find the sliders with the orange tails, sun shrimp and orange shrimp, work a treat. mind you they worked the other day in reasonably clear water.
just keeping trying mike and change your retreive if nothings working.....one day super slow with no pauses works and the next super quick with a pause works...and everything in between.
cheers pete

As you probably guessed I tend to use Slider grubs, usually in muscadine and pumpkin seed but i have been getting a few blowies on the other colours to now. Wierd thing, I'm getting a lot more blowies on low tide than other times I fish (Herrison Island area).
As for technique, just get it in there as much as possible. Varying the tiwitch as much as possible till the fish start taking it, but generally what the other fellas are saying. I don't think there's anything special about it, right place at the right time, and keep it jiggy.
I have noticed a difference in how the bream are taking the grub over different time periods, swallowed whole or in the corner.
cheers
Pete
