Soft Plastics

G'day guys
Seeing I don't have a boat I have taken up wading as a way of targeting fish. My question is: I take a selection of plastics and jigheads etc with me, but these inevitably get wet. What should I do to keep them in good condition.
I have them bagged seperately in a small plastic (but not waterproof) tacklebox.
Is there any tips you guys can give?

i think sum of the guys use ziplock bags to carry there equipment in.

darryl you can get waterproof tackle boxes now. plano make a range of them. i ve got a couple and they are very good- i think that the small ones cost around $6 and can fit an array of jigs and a few of your fav colours

If you mean the Plano clear plastic boxes that have a coloured "O" ring seal and the coloured clips on the side, they are terrific and really cheap for how good they are.

Actually there amazingly cheap for such a great imported product.

ive got the small yellow one and a large red one- mainly use the larger red one as it can fit most of plastics, jigs, hb and trebels in the same one. think that it cost me $12 from bluewaters- cheap

it was weird though the other day i left it in the sun in the boat and condensation started to form in the inside of it because it was sealed so well!

I've seen those o-ringed Plano stowaways, and also another brand that was set up the same way. Should be good in an open boat where spray is a problem too.

What about wearing a vest with all your plastics in seperate zip-lock bags in the pockets?

I do this all the time now, whether I'm boat or land based and it keeps everything nice and handy:D

Here's what I'm talking about - and a fish pic:D (any excuse.....:D )

While I'm at it I'll let you know how it's organised as well:)

Top left Pocket - Spike-It scents (2 bottles)
Top right Pocket - assorted bags of different size jigheads (Gamakatsu of course;))
First bottom right zip pocket - Ecogear plastics
Second bottom right zip pocket - Slider plastics
First bottom left zip pocket - Atomic plastics
Second bottom right zip pocket - Berkely Powerbait plastics, plus other assorted ones.

All these plastics are kept in their original packaging. To give you an idea of how many I carry, I average about 8-10 bags in each pocket - when I'm in the casting chair at the front of the boat I don't like to move much:D

Across the front of these pockets are 4 smaller ones, from left to right they contain:
1) 10lb leader + Braid scissors
2) 7lb leader + line snips (Thanks Richo:D )
3) 4lb leader, 2 different types
4) Berkely Digital scales (imperial unfortunately)

I also have a pair of stainless steel surgical forceps on a lanyard that sits in whatever zip pocket is handy, and I always have the Leatherman 'Wave' on the belt.;)

Everything nice and handy - unfortunately I still have to move to get a beer:D (by the way, I need a good deckie that'll serve me drinks, know anyone? :D :D )

Thats a damn great set up Dave! Wearing your tackle sure beats carrying it in your hand.


You have to buy one of those "Homer" hats that have two beer can built into the top with the two straws coming down behind your ears and mate YOU ARE SET :D

That is how the flyfishers often do it. They also have really nifty retractable cord things that hold line clippers, small pliers, etc so you can grab the tool and pull it down to use, then just let go and it reels back up to where it hangs on your vest.
