I'm suddenly having problems with my johnson 15.

It is intermittently surging and seems to be running on one cylinder. I know that its pretty hard to give advice on something like this but do you reckon it could be the spark plugs ?

I have taken them out and cleaned them and they look OK.

How old is it mate?

My 20 Merc was doing the same fairly recently, definitely cutting back to one cylinder, and it was a simple (but expensive) job to replace the electronic ignition.

All outboards need clean fuel, clean air and spark to run. Try these things and then if no good I suggest a trip to the outboard doctor:

To check spark remove the plug, clean and gap, refit the lead and then hold the thread to earth and crank engine. You should see a good clean spark. It pays to hold the plug with insulated pliers. Check both plugs this way. If on removal they look different or wet the plugs may be at fault.

Depending on your mechanical ability you should also check the carbs for dirt, water etc.
I also suggest that you purchase a Handbook. Tech. books do a good series and will even allow you to do your own servicing. Again dependant on your ability.
Water in the fuel will also give you these symptoms.
Hope this helps.

Yep it was the power pack quick and simple replacement but expensive at $214.00.

Nice little built in part that's destined to fail and cost big bucks to fix.

Of course they didn't have one in stock and they had to order one in..................I feel lost , I want my motor back !!!!!!

From what I can work out, haven't you got a great big sand flat that drops off into a channel almost directly in front of your house??

I know what I'd be doing:D

Harumpphh!

Most of us don't even have "grass" at our house ;-)

I shouldn't complain though, I have the Barwon River full of carp about 10 minutes walk from my house.
