I want to start fishing the comp`s but i now that it is almost imposiable to get in as a nonboater , so wat if the cheepest way to get set up. I am thinking a dingy. I know that the boat has to be over 3.7m but I do not know what size outboard I will need if i get a dingy

The theory goes that you need a motor capable of pushing two boofy blokes, all thier gear, and a full 60l+ livewell up onto the plane - 20 horsepower minimum.
All the relevent details are here:
http://www.fishingmonthly.com.au/~bream/
Just download the 2003 tourguide (top left). It has all the details you'll need to know, including a great article on setting up a boat and what the top guys use:)
ben in wa the live well tank needs to be 80l min.
there is also some talk i think about the length of the boat increasing.

That'd be right. I just bought a new 3.75m boat. ;) Oh well, if I can't use mine on the Gold Coast I'll just have to enter as a non-boater.

How about red-necked, anti-social, slobbering, hillbilly, inbred, sons of camels armpits?:D :D :D
You know the type, mumbling incoherently about 2" plastics and the new Attack colour...... fiendishly guarding their tackle box and the new secret that will blitz the competition....... :D
I think I've just described myself....:D
Oh, by the way, I'm pretty sure it says on the front page of the site "Welcome to Australia's Premier Bream Sportsfishing Site";) :D
Just remember there's Bream addicts everywhere:D
And some of us adicts are female too
:p
Hi Ben,
Depends on how much you want to spend and what sort of waters you're going to fish from.
I personally would be looking to get the biggest you can afford. Nothing smaller than 3.85. This should cover you for future rule changes and means you have a better boat for more open water. (20-30hp)
A v-punt is not a bad idea. This gives you better stability for breaming, but is a lot better in choppy water than a straight punt.
HTH.
If you are looking at prices, we paid $2300 for ours, which you can see a pic of in the hulls forum. The MuddleDuck. You can sometimes pick up an electric motor from the boat yards that they have had in stock for a while or been on display a bit cheaper than buying brand new, thats what we did.
We have spent less than $500 on doing the floor modifications + the cost of the seat, swivel and stand.
Hope that helps
Mim

I am on a very tight budget and probably long term prodject , 1000 is a lot of dollars to a young famialy. Does anyone know how I can do it realy 'cheap'.
ben im sure that there are some second hand dinghies out there for around $1000- dont know how reliable they would be but there are definately some . check out your local marine classifieds
all you need then is an 80l esky and some sort of aerator - can pick them up for around $30-50 at various boat stores.
i think that you would be pretty hard pressed to find a dinghy wiht a working motor and a trailer for $1000 though!
Ben you can get in as a non-boater you just need to send your entrys in very early. Here in WA some guys paid up front for all the rounds when entries opened and they have got a spot no worries.
Or team up with someone who has a boat, enter as their non-boater and you will get a spot that way.

WOW that was quick , I don't even know anyone to go fishing with let alone anyone with a boat. If I can enter the next comp I defenatly will. But I did have some one offer a boat for hire , what would be the restrictions on that.

Which state are you in, Ben?
I'd say you'd have to check the insurance on a rental. The insurance has to be in your name too, I understand. No doubt Ira or Warren will correct me.
Also the 20hp limit may be a problem. The livewell is easy apparently - just a 60l esky and aerator. Check the rental has a battery too. :)

I'm in Albany WA, I do all my fishing at the Kalgan.
I was thinking about going to Walpole on Satarday for a look at the comp boys and dream about my posiable boat , and cast a few lures around.
Ben,
Did you get a chance to head down? It was a great experience and a BIG learning curve for many of us. When you see BM head out to fish for bream with a sea anchor, you know it's going to be different.
I have some pics I can send if you are interested in seeing the boats.

Thank you for the offer I would love to see the photo's , and yes I did go to Walpole on Saterday. It was a buitifull day apart for the heat. I got to watch about 10 or so boats out off Sand beach. One of the boats came over to where I was and did some filming. It looked like they filmed me fishing. I was thinking that maybe it was for the Breamin vidio's. If you know that it is going into a vidio please let me know.
