i've just come back from a visit from my local tackel shop.

and while down there i asked about a bream out fit.

the guy at the shop showed me a very nice rod called a studwick Sic Stick Pro (2 pce)

and he picked out a Daiwa Samurai and a Daiwa Caprice 1500 reels for it. even put the reels on the rods and let me have a feel of how they felt.

while the price is up there at $300 for the Rod with the Samurai and $340 with the Caprice. what i'd like to know is, anyones thoughts on this set up.

i'm a bit worried about the rods ability to stop a bream if it's near a snag, as it's very long and skinny.

any ideas would be great.

Thanks

Mark

Mark,
the combo will be great for bream spinning. I'd go the Caprice over the Samurai though. If you look through the forums there's quite a few guys who have experienced bearing corrosion problems with the Samurai.

The price you have quoted looks like standard retail price. You can probably get cheaper if you shop around. At the very least I'd see if the BM store will give you a better price. They'll give you great advice to boot.

like i said in my first post i've never had a rod so thin before, even thought the guy at the shop showed me how strong it is, i'm still worried that if i coughed while holding the rod it would break.

can a rod this thin stop a fish from going back into cover

When I looked at the rod it didn't seem thinner than other graphite bream rods. It's going to be fine for normal breaming but if you are specifically targeting decent bream in heavy structure (rack fishing for instance) I'd be looking for a heavier rod. If you haven't used a graphite rod before I'd think you'd be surprised how much hurt you can put on a fish with such a skinny light rod.
