mate you are going well so far, sink tips are good it you wanna fish drop offs cause of the way the front taper sinks, they also have the advantage for new comers to the game that the stripped line during a retrieve will not sink, it floats, saving tangles etc. sink tips also have the advantage that when the retrieve is almost finished and the sinking end of the taper is about 1-2 rod lengths out, the point at where the to tapers or densities meet is generally a different colour, one is also floating and the other submerged, the point where they meet is a good srtrike indicator, watch this carefully if it moves or more importantly twitches about more than an inch or so, STRIKE, not with the rod but a combination of lifting the rod and a nice fast strip of the fly line.

Read my other post absorb it and you can't go wrong, as for spots I don't live there but look for rocks which become submerged at a good high tide, fish amongst these, otherwise low tide spots such as significant drop offs are worth a look, as to are the flats on overcast days, especially in the systems on the south Coast!!!!!

good luck and tight fly lines!

thanks shauno hey does colours matter because i was wondering when i get it if it was worth getting the clear sinking part or what. over all how long a leader would be needed for a coloured end.
cheers

Well if your gunna use the sink tip a clear end would be of benefit in clear water, but to be honest i really think it makes only a small difference, (just think of our green and pink fireline!) so sink tip colour is irrelevant. What is important is the leader length, with sinking lines i have found that if i keep my leader set up shorter, say about 8-9 feet the flies have a better sink rate and don't seem to belly too much behind the quicker sinking fly line.
I'd probably start fishing a striat through leader of about 8-10lb, pref flurocarbon!
Any lighter can be suicide, any heavier can restrict sink rates etc. etc.

good luck!
