Found out last year if I was casting out far for the bigger flathead with bait, then get a birdsnest and spend 5 minutes untying the knot a big flathead will come :p
Serious, has happened twice in a row and 2 more times where I lost the fish (didnt know how to land a blowie back then) ;) And even if you just leave it there for 5 minutes alone nothing will happen. The magic birdsnest is essential.
Another one is that you cant catch bream on lures at claremont (yes i hate claremont that much). Why dont one of you come down here and nail one of those residentual buggers! Actually its just me dont pay any attention.
Another one yet is...that the Halco sneaky scorpion isnt for me. I am not going buy or use another one until I start nailing them on sliders. First sneaky I lost because I brought a blowie I landed up too hard and the line just snapped along with my precious sneaky. Then a few months later I after 1-2 hours walking getting sunburnt to the local tackleshop just to get another sneaky, only to lose it at the SAME spot but this time getting snagged on the ladder and losing it because I was using a 4lb leader and I guess I was used to a 10lb. Broke the leader before I even stuck my head out to have a look.
Both sneakys were lost due to stupid reasons...not fighting 2kg bream which is a crap. Anyway this is getting long now sorry.
btw great thread topic!

Mine is definately my Blue Heeler, he is my good luck dog!
On the extremely rare occasions he's not in the boat.......forget it, its not worth wetting a line :)
No bananas in the boat, but nothing happened to me before I'd heard this old one :D

There's got to be a beer in the boat at all times - you don't have to drink it, it's just got to be there for ahhhmmmm.... emergency purposes?:D
And ditto on the Banana ban Ozy - this includes anything Banana related, lollies, drinks, pictures of Bananas etc...

Does this mean that no Queenslander is alllowed to fish?
And for that matter, if you worked as a banana picker?

The No banana's thing i think has it's origin's in Marlin fishing I read one of Craig Campbells post's about his non-boater in albany. It didn't seem to hex him too much, "MR BIGGEST BREAM":D
The banana and sunscreen thing relates back to a belief that the scent will put off fish.

gday
another supertition is when i bait fish i normally hokld the rod but everytime i goto get somehting to eat or drink the rod goes off ???
thanks michael
When a mate told me about the banana thing I thought he was having a lend of me until I saw it refered to on one of the fishing shows on TV ( Escape with ET, I think ).
Anyway the story goes back 100s of years to the Pacific Islands where Islands used to trade with one onother and one particular tribe was taking bananas to another island to trade and had about 15 boats, 14 of which were full of bananas and the 15th one had none. A storm hit and 14 boats sank, guess which one didn't - the one with no bananas
It's true, I saw it on TV :D :D .

I reckon walking behind a bush to have a wee works the same way ;-) Guaranteed to get a bite even after hours of nothing.

If women or kids are fishing, they ALWAYS catch the biggest and bestest fish. It is a natural phenomenon!;)

This doesn't apply to bream fishing but when we used to go Marlin fishing in Sydney aboard The Sheriff my team be they males or females always had to wear red underpants & an old flannel shirt & there was an inspection carried out as well to check they were wearing them & were not in possesion of bananas. Then it progressed to wearing the SAME red undies & shirts. In the end they got so tatty I had to store them in a seperate bag only to be used when chasing billfish :D The undies had holes worn in them & the back was worn out of my shirt & still they lasted another 3 years & we averaged 2 marlin a day Until IT happened. My Mum tossed them in the rag bag. We had 4 dud trips in a row  The new ones just didn't work. Then we discovered black undies with the VB logo on the front :D :D Fish in the pattern everywhere :D :D :D :D

I think I agree with you there Pete - the mental image of Ravin and his undies is one I could have done without this early in the morning.
