I reckon if it gets a heap more fishery inspectors out and about it is a great idea, however if it is just another scam to leach more dollars away from us hard working average fella's and ladies it sux

1. money to be held in a trust whish is then allocated my a non-government committee.

2. all allocations to be transparent.

3. people under 18 exempt, seniors half price.

4. initial price sealed for 2 years. Future changes to be voted on at a public forum

plenty more to come

Hi Guys, this is my first time using the site for real and what a great site. I have to agree with Bear and Geoff P on this one.
so long as it is monitored and agreed upon by the public then i think it is a great idea but if there arent enough inspectors to monitor those that try to get away with not paying etc. then it will make it hard for those that are doing the right thing.

The license has some potential to fix illegal fishing (undersize fish etc) however the down side is there are people out there that I think will take the wrong approach. Some might think because they have paid for a license they now have a right to catch as much fish as they want however big or small.

Just a thought...

Public education needs to be a priority.

You'll also see htings change if the Fisheries officers have a more public showing. A few warning to start with.

The fisheries web site also needs a major overhaul, it's a disgrace.

On top of all this, Recfishwest needs to be working harder to get people to join up and have a say.

i also think that people might have the "i've paid money so i'm allowed to take this 2cm fish which is even too small to feed the cat" approach

although, like every else is saying.. if fisheries actually shows a presence and stops (well, minimises at best) the taking of undersize fish and over the top bags then it'll be a good thing

i dunno about under 18's being exempt.. i'd say under 16's is fair enough, because most people at 16 have some sort of income - in a lot of cases it's only government money that will be given back anyway :p

i agree with half price for seniors though
