Never let it be said, I haven't given it a fair go.
Some time back I wrote to the Premier, about the netting in the Hardy Inlet Issue, and the fact that decisions are being made by the Capes Marine Parks committee that effect the netting issue and vice versa without either agency, CALM or Fisheries advising each other what they are doing!!!.
I'm not the only one whose raised it....
Recfishwest mentioned it in their sumbmission to Fisheries Dept Hardy Inlet Blackwood River Netting Public Discussion paper 169 also raised concern .
However, should CALM implement sanctuary zones in the Blackwood which have the effect of forcing the commercial operator to increasingly target bream, we would insist upon his removal.
Recfishwest also mentioned it in their submission to the Capes Marine Park committee.
Hardy Inlet
A discussion paper "The Hardy Inlet Estuarine Fishery - Management Issues and Options" recently released by the Department of Fisheries is presently open for public submissions. The paper deals with serious resource sharing issues in Blackwood River and Hardy inlet that has yet to be resolved. The outcomes derived from public consultation of the paper could have a significant impact on the use of Hardy inlet from a recreational and commercial fishing point of view.
Recfishwest insists that no decisions should be made regarding zoning until these significant resource sharing issues are resolved. In reality the proposed sanctuary zone within the estuary (Point Pedder) will force the one commercial fisherman to target black bream which would result in an enormous escalation in local conflict. A range of fisheries management measures is required for Hardy Inlet and simplistic closures would be no substitute. This proposal must not proceed in its current form.
Well proceed it will...regardless!!!
This reply (below) just recieved today from the Premiers office confirms it - what we say doesn't matter, basically it's a "done deal" and nothing anglers SAY or DO -- will alter this situation is how I interpeet the reply - you be your own judges.
I'd advise anglers to rememeber this shoddy treatement - when it comes time to vote at the upcomming election.
(A vote for the Fishing party will be the BEST way to send that message IMHO!)

Mr S Low etc etc
Dear Mr Low,
Thank you for your email relating to the management of Fisheries, in the Hardy Inlet/Blackwood River system and deliberations on the proposed Capes marine conservation reserve between Geograph Bay and the Hardy Inlet. The Premier has asked me to reply to you on his behalf.
I understand a copy of Fisheries Management Paper No. 169 The Hardy Inlet Estuarine Fishery - Management Issues and Options was recently forwarded to you following it's release on 24 February. **(Actually no it wasn't - so I downloaded a copy from Fisheries Website)** The Honourable Kim Chance, Minister For Agriculture Forestry & Fisheries will give carefull consideration to the matters raised in all submissions received before determining the future management for this Fishery.
I am aware of the marine conservation reserve planning process currently underway for the proposed Capes marine conservation reserve, which includes the Hardy Inlet. The objective of this process is to establish representative marine conservation reserves. Fishers who utilse this area would, therefore have a keen interest in this marine planning process.
While the objective of the conservation reserve planning process is not to address commercial and recreational fishing issues, a copy of the Fisheries discusssion paper has been made available to the Capes Marine Conservation Reserve Advisory Committee for its information.
The advisory committee will continue to develop it's recommendations for Government on the management of the proposed Capes marine conservation reserve area. There is extensive and ongoing consultation with more that 40 stakeholder groups to ensure that community views and concerns are both heard and addressed. There will also be a three month statutory consultation period during which additional feedback form the community will be sought. I am confident that this level of consultation will deliver recommendations that reflect community aspirations and balance the need to protect conservation values and support sustainable use.
Yours Sincerely,
Mark McGowan MLA
Parliamentary Secretary To The Premier.
I wish I shared his condfidence!. (And I categorically DON'T).
This is why!
The Rec Angling West Coast Review Paper put out by Fisheries Dept also had a 3 month public consultation process!.
The issue of Netting in the Hardy inlet was 'prostituted' by a Fisheries department employee, in the way the question was phrased as a 'double blind' question with regard to netting in the Hardy Inlet.
No matter which of the two multiple choice questions you selected about ending netting - BOTH counted as SUPPORT for the continuation of netting in the Hardy Inlet!!!!.
There was no 3rd multiple choice question to select to express a desire to END ALL netting in the Hardy Inlet!!!!.
I organised a national email campaign to Fisheries Department on various fishing forums of the internet, that resulted in 258 separate emails to Fisheries, directly saying they didn't agree with the way the question was phrased and wanted ALL netting to cease straight away.
Fisheries used 500 plus of the replys from Anglers who supported an end to netting generaly in WA (but therefore unwittingly supported it's continuation in the Hardy Inlet!! due to the unscrupulous method used of phrasing the question), to "out-vote" the 258 individual email submissions, calling for an end to all netting, made by people who took the trouble to email and say the question was a crock of crap!!!.
THIS is the TYPE of underhanded scurrilous method the Govt USE to thwart public consultation!!. (And why i have such little FAITH in anything they say or write).
Public consultation means NOTHING to these DohDohDohDohDohDohs...
They do whatever they want and they TWIST peoples words (or the actual questions themselves) to get a desired end result outcome, regardless of what the public REALLY want!.
The Public have had enough of being shafted.
Let the public have their say at the elections, is my suggestion when they VOTE these fraudsters OUT.
It WILL be the publicly stated policy of "The Fishing Party" that:-
those Public Servants who have wantonly thwarted the wishes of the angling public on this netting issue - be rooted out and then have them removed from Public Service!!!.
Therefore :- This is a pledge I make to Anglers, as a representative of "The Fishing Party".
If your tired of getitng screwed over by these politicians- then vote the buggers out. I give my word, if elected - that I will root these public servants who have aided and abeted such a fraud upon the angling public OUT of the public service if it's the last thing I do.
The Public can get rid fo the Politicians who allow such corruption to occur, but if elected I WILL clean "the ferrets out of the hen house" in as far as the Public Servants who aid and abet them to perpetrate their frauds against us in the manner we've all observed with regard to the netting issue in the Hardy Inlet.
Cheers!
