I haven't seem the breaming videos so I really have no idea how you guys retrieve your sp's. Before I go upriver again for a second go I want to make sure I've got the right idea in jigging the sp's properly.

How do you guys do it? I saw a section of a fishingwa episode where the guy kept on doing multiple jerking actions that was quite fast. I dont know if its against my nature since I usually fish lures quite slow, but is that the right way? Will a bream take a lure going faster than a metre/second?

Bushy and Starlo's method seems to be:
Pull line using the rod, maybe 50-150mm,
return rod to original position and take up slack with reel,
repeat. A pause can be inserted in this routine too.

Slow retrieves and a lift and drop retrieve seem common,
fast and steady retrieves aren't commonly used with soft plastics in my experience (which isn't extensive).

You've got to experiment a bit too:)

If the 'lift and retrieve' technique isn't working, try 'dead sticking' (extended pauses) the plastic, or a very, very slow straight retrieve - the next Bream to pick a plastic up off the bottom while it is lying still won't be the last ;)

As a sidenote, last Saturday I was spotting Bream feeding against pylons in semi-clear water, all I did to catch them was hang the plastic 2 or so feet off the rod and slowly lower it into the water, no other movement needed:eek:

Yah went down to claremont yacht club today and site casted to some bream we saw. Had 2 hits a few hours apart...Oh so close.

DOesnt matter though now im confident enough to head upriver, at least this way it doesnt feel like im chucking in a piece of plastic in the river for no reason.

Sometimes the fish just don't want to play, no matter what they are offered!!!

and also change the colour or shape of your soft plastic if you are not getting any hits, they might respond better to a certain colour or shape that moment... dunno
