View Full Version : Shimano setup
Hi Folks,
I'm looking into getting a breamin' setup, and can get great prices on Shimano gear only. I decided on the SFS Stella 6'6", and a Stradic ST1000FH. But I'm still unsure about the rod. Would a Squidgy 7" or a Raider Bream Finesse be better rods for a beginner? Any other higher-end rods in the Shimano range?
Thanks,
wakd.

Hi Wakd,
My first Bream specific rod was a 7' Squidgy. Nice rod, like the lenght for casting over the flats, and I find to be a nice HB rod. I have since got a Heartland Z IM6 6'6". This is my go to rod now, love it for fishing SP's and nice for close combat whippy casts. Only thing I dont like about the HZ is the grip length would like it to be shorter. Seeing as at the moment all my fish at being got a couple of meters from my feet I think my next rod will be even shorter.
Squidgy if main fishing HB's on flats, or similar type of rod. More whippy graphite rods for SP's, HZ/Pro Casters/or alike.
HTH
Cheers

Hey
My first bream rod was a stella 6'6" and I was very happy with it. I had a feel of the squidgy, too fat and sloppy for my liking, but maybe thats just me.
The stella is pretty good but abit soft, maybe the raider would be better but if u can get a raider then go for it

my first rod was a stella i thought it was ok till i snapped it on a small bass.i then bought the squidgy rod which i like a lot better for fishing softplastics.:)
Thanks guys, I think I'm going to get the Raider Spin Finesse Bream 7'6" 2-piece...
Took delivery of the Raider Bream Finesse and a Sustain 1000 (decided to upgrade from the Stradic, cos I've got money to burn - not!) last night. Spooled it up with 4lb Flame Fireline last night, and took it out before work this morning. WOW! Casting distance is incredible, very light weight, and I caught a very nice bream in the half hour I had to test it before heading to work. It's possibly a little sloppy for HBs, but absolutely magic with SPs - highly reccomended!
