Went into one of the local tacklo's on the way home today, to find them unpacking the new Okuma shipment - with two new reel models:eek:
The first one was the 'Metaloid' (see pic below), very similar to the 'Epix' but with a 5:1 retrieve ratio (compared to 6.3:1), bigger (waterproof) drag washers and more.... Suffice to say I was very, very impressed - the only downside was that the smallest size they had was in the '30' range - a tad big for my needs Bream spinning;)
If you want to see an online review have a look here:
http://www.tackletour.com/reviewmetaloid.html
The other one was the 'Californian' - but don't hold your breath to get one, apparantly the store I was in is the only store in Aus. that will be selling them:eek:
It's a bit down market from the 'Epix' or the above Metaloid in terms of bearing quantity but still pretty bloody impressive and it comes in a '20' size - that's more like it:D
They were doing a combo with one of the Okuma rods (in the Bream spinning weight range) and the Californian for under $200 - and it felt pretty good;) I haven't really looked at the Okuma rods before, but this one would've given my Procaster a run for it's money:D
Now I've just got to convince the better half I need more gear:D :D

They new nothing about the 'Inspira' - I sure did ask:D
The Metaloids could have been a special deal just for this store as well - I'll ask them next time I'm there;)

I must admit I feel abit funny because I just bought an Epix, but considering the time factor I guess the epix 20 I got was the best, and its a fine reel for me

Torvic, dont worry about owning a Epix 20 they are a terrific reel :)
My local tackle guy is getting the Inspira in as soon as they arrive in Oz which is supposed to be early Feb.
I asked for a price and he got his 'book' out and looked up the price 'he' will pay and I snuck a look and I am sure they were $220.00 so after he adds his mark up they wont be cheap.
Ozy.

The Inspira isn't even listed on Okuma's home page

I think it will be awhile till my local tackle shop will have them :(

Hi there,
I bought the smallest "metaloid" and brought it home and when i was spooling it up the line got stuck between the bail roller!!!
It was cheap 6lb mono so i would hate to see what 4lb fireline would do. also the chrome finnish was coming of the graphite body of the reel. so i took it back and bought a small spinfisher instead.
A mate has the epix 20 and has no problems and it looks like a great reel.
cheers, steve.
I must admit, I'm looking forward to the Inspira coming out. Although, I do very well on the cheaper offering of the AV30 ($70) and the FA30 ($50).
Both have caught their fair share of good bream.

I'm pretty sure I saw Rod Harrison saying the Okuma Metalloid was "a good thing" in one of his colums or articles in Fishing World. I think it was a 2002 issue.

Where do you get the FA30 for $50?
Local DohDohDohDohDoh was selling them for $89.95 and the cheapest I've seen them in Brisbane is for $79.95
I'd buy it for $50

Here is some bizzare news on the Okuma Metalloid, apparently only one shop per state will be selling them. In Victoria it is apparently going to be JV Marine in Melb.
The one reviewed on the USA tackletour site is rear drag I think, the ones we are supposed to be getting are front drag.
Tambo,
I bought mine here in W.A.
