Anyone ever used a Daiwa Battler "python"?

Was shown at Compleat Angler one of these rods they appear awesome. Ever used one? How do they perfrom.?

Great rod....The best Docks rod I've ever had the pleasure of using, a ball of muscle...As for hard bodies way too stiff, ya want tippy not stiff.....but great for plastics.:D

Got to disagree there.... stiff rod for HB and whippy soft rod for soft plastics.........

its confusing some say HB rod should be stiff, and one for soft plastics less stiff more wippy. go to another store or talk to another angler and you will get the opposite,.

Such a difference is odd, sure some guys say fireline 6lb is better than 4 or a 6'6" would be better than a 7 ' vice versa, you can accept but when u get told the complete opposite all the time it has you wondering.

Back to the Battler at Compleat Angler the say this stiff rod is for SPs ????

IMO Soft longer rod for SP and shorter stiffer rod for HB this is because sps are generally lighter than hbs and you need the longer softer rod to get themout the distance. HBs put on more pressure then sps so you have to use a stiffer rod. HBs also have more weight so you can get them out futher with a shorter stiffer rod, especially when using bigger hbs like R2S Shads in the 60 and 70 size. It also depends if you are shorebashing or of a boat.

To get the action and control, most ppl use softer tip rods for sp and stiffer for hb....

It depends on the style of fishing you do too....

Yep I agree with that, and I also reckon you can get more distance out of 6'6+ than 6ft, most guys seem to go a 2-4kg for hards and a 1-3 for softies.

gotta agree with the consensus on HB and SP rods. I personally prefer a stiffer tip action even when fishing SP's but too stiff in the tip will inhibit your casting. Hey it's not a problem at close quarters around structure but if you want to be more subtle/finesse your SP presentations and more accurate on the cast then go for the softer tip. As some of you know Mim has a Graphite USA DHX660 and this blank is great for SP's in comparison to my Daiwa Heartland Z 631 LFS which states on the blank.... Lure 1/32 - 1/4 oz Line 4 - 8 lb yeah I can fish 1/32oz if I only have to cast 5 metres and the blank really is too stiff to be deadly accurate. The Z is my primary HB rod, my SP's rod well I'm working on that one and it's a custom job

in WA we chuck some pretty large HB's for Bream eg. Scorpion 68's so a stiff rod is good for that but if you only throw small HB's like Scorpion 35's then you will find a rod like the Graphite USA DHX 660 to be superb. Mim chucks just about everything with it.
But theres no way in hell I'd be tying a Scorp'68 to it.

So this is where we get confusing answers and most fishos get too personal about it. A salesperson can only supply you with the goods that you describe as being suitable based on other sales and their personal experience. They will get your opinions and then try to match it up with the goods in stock. The whole game is constantly evolving and what is thought to be good one day is obsolete the next but then that same product makes a comeback under a slightly different guise.

what has to be considered here like JP said is the lures to be thrown, come on lets face it a 100mm squidgy wriggler and larger jig head is a far different lure to a a subtle 1 inch berkley powergrub on a 1/32 oz jig, both very good lures however contrasting. Both require different rods for optimnal performance and that is the key OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE.

Often we only have one or two rods (or 6 like some of us) and in that regard we use these 2 rods for a wide range of applications, such as hardbodies for example, like JP said, scorp 68's, even 52mm versions are big crankbaits and the average rod just isn't OPTIMAL, therefore we comprimise and use the rods we have.
I prefer to use generally smaller minnows such as attacks and merlins etc for my bream, an optimal rod for me has to be soft in the tip, without being too soft to allow the lure to swim and cast well . However a certain degree of progressive stiffness is needed to set hooks otherwise you would miss many hits especially on the pause.
Soft plastics on the other hand are similar, too soft a rod and you'll struggle to set the hooks, however too stiff and casting distance will suffer.

What has to be expected is that anglers are faced with many different scenarios when fishing for bream in many different habitats. so the majority of time spent in whichever scenario will determine which rod is more suitable, likewise which lures are preferred most etc. as for length, we don't have the enormous flats which the west has, alot of south australian water is tight so casting distance is not always paramount, often a shorter rod is preferable in tight creeks and small rivers, trout fishermen and women will surely agree.

What ever the case there is no right and wrong action it comes down to the anglers preference and the application (i.e habitat, distance required to cast and the lure weight and action) in which the rod will be used to determine anglers preference towards partiucular actions!

I think that was a little stiff, casting distance isn't all I'm chasing I really want to feel what the lures doing and I can achieve that by using soft tipped rods, but I'll take it on board and we'll see. It will be interesting!

Went out for half and hour before the downpour yesterday..... got a few hits and landed on hb, but nothing on size.... at the Pat

hey Glenn, fished in some soup today after uni, just for an hour.
landed a fish first cast and thought it was gunna be a wicked session.
Ended up catching just three ( 25-30m fish), missed one other hot, all on my custom attack, good colour!

The location: top end gates at the pat, also tried king street bridge, but a bit too deep for attacks.

Sorry glenn, completely different colour, mainly pink and black
(my fav pattern) with a bit of a subtle difference. works a treat! so far caught a stck of fish in average conditions. I'll show you later, actually it's the one which was on my rod when you dropped in the other thursday night, if you remember.
