anyone found that when you are using the finest of braids like fireline that the line roller on the epix eb 20 starts to get worn in and the braid causes a groove in the roller??? I ve seen it on mine and I bought the reel from Australia NOT overseas!!! I thought the roller was titanium coated! and if you wanted to be exact Id say the coatin is some type of titanium nitrate from the looks of it! some os the gold tends to fade in worn or well used areas! well so i have found! anyone with the same problem I would be happy to hear from you!
and make sure you do no rub hard at the body the area where it says epix it came off on mine!

i have one so will be looking out for this
so far ive been impressed with the reel
I have 2 of these reels (had them for a year) and have noticed some of the problems you've been having. The epix logos do come off if you rub them enough, although it's no biggie IMHO.
Also, the spool lip and roller are coated with Titanium nitride (TiN) which is an extremely hard wearing material, commonly used to coat tools that are subject to wear. Check out the chart on this page (scroll down) for an idea of how hard it is http://www.brycoat.com/hardness.htm Diamond would be better of course, and in fact it is possible to lay a few atoms of diamond on metals already, but it's very expensive.
The TiN coatings are generally only a few microns thick. I guess Okuma made theirs as thin as possible to reduce costs, which means it will come off at some stage.
I can't say I've had any groove problems with my reels though. I've used them with 4 and 8lb braid. They've landed countless bream, trevally and various reefies without problems so far. The roller itself has a deep groove in it (at least on my reels) already to control the line position and help to remove twists. I'm not sure how you could tell that a deeper groove has formed.
Cheers
James.

When I bought my epix eb20 that is the bait runner version found recently that the bait runner drag knob and the drag itself don't seem to be working the way they should! I got my reel for $130:p so maybe the dealer that I went to gave me an old stock reel:mad: I think this is the most likly reason!

Bream Jr,
Are you sure your line roller is rolling? It doesn't take too much dirt etc to jam them up and then they will groove. Might be worth checking as it may only be rolling some of the time.
