Hi Guys
I was wondering has anyone used that new Ultrabite fish attractant on their SP's as I have been doing some reading and the claims they make about the stuff is pretty impressive. They even go so far as to say that the stuff gets better results from larger more mature fish than from smaller fish. It is scientifically designed to provote fish into a fishing pattern.
If its true I'm getting some but it would be good to get some input from someone who has tested it on Australian species first.
Look forward to any repley's

Wish I could tell you...after reading all the reports, a mate and I have been searching high and low for the stuff but can't find it anywhere!!

I bought a bottle of the stuff last week. Aniseed. Just thought we would give it a trundle and see how it went.
We went out wading in low tide Port phillip bay. Have caught heaps of frogs doing this before. We actually tested the "ultra bite" by one of us using it and the other going without.
Well both of us got jack shyt so the jury is still out.

Thanks for the input. I haven't heard anyone that has used it and had an instrumental difference.
Big Red where abouts in Port Phillip Bay do you wade. I'm originally from Lara and have fished around Grammer school and avalon to alcoa quite extensively. Good fishing to be had around the Yatchs in the Grammer school lagoon for bream, trevally, flathead and the occasional pinkie on the SP's.

Generally we go wading (low tide permitting) around Mcrae/Rosebud/Rye. Just because its close by.
You get a lot of deep gutters at low tide and the larger Flatties tend to be in close to shore at this time. There is no structure to fish around, and you just have to work the gutters over and over.
Have scored good frogs in the past & even some small salmon near rosebud pier.
Went out over Australia day weekend and got nada.

Went out off Geelong on Staurday afternoon scored a 42cm flatty, 9 pinkies from 27 to 34cm and a 41cm salmon. Also got 7 whiting using bait as there nice to eat.

Yeah, we went out on Sunday off Dromana, attempting to get a coupla pinkies. Ended up catching one pinkie @ about ten cms! along with about 40 decent flatties.
Had a coupla beginners on board who were happy just harvesting the bay rats, but it was a very ordinary day.

I used some Ultrabite last Sunday off The Nobbies. We were actually heading out to have a go at Mako's on SP but the wind got up to 15-20 so I called it quits. Anchored in about 4.5M of water, fishing for whiting and punching the burley pot as well. Within minutes there were mullet at the back of the boat just mooching around feeding on the burley. I squirted a bit of Ultrabite on the surface and within 30 seconds they were going nuts and within 5 minutes I had a 7ft shark trying to eat my prop.
Dipped the baits into U/b but there seemed to be no significant difference in the hookup rates.
Jury still out, but the response of the mullet was interesting.

So what your saying is that surfers shouldn't put ultra bite on their wet suits if they want to keep their legs.
I was talking to my local tackle store owner and he said that he sold two boxes of the ultrabite in 2 days.

ballnuts,
first of all i'm not doubting the use of ultra bite, as ive not tried it yet, but just because its getting sold doesn't mean that it works. there has been a lot of ads for it lately that i've seen so that would explain the high level of sales.
i've heard that the ultra bite is quite watery and therefore may not cling to the plastics as well, a solution to that, which is meant to be improving its effectiveness is to mix it with a thicker catch scent, a gel like one. the specific brand name i can't think of but i know it comes in blue and green tubes, one for fresh, one for saltwater. it might be Sure Catch ???
hope that helps
cheers
ps i'll be storing my fishing gear a long way from my wetsuit from now on !

Thanks for the advice mate
Very good point about storing your wetty out of the way. As ultrabite has no smell it would be a good way to get revenge on some arsole that keeps dropping in on you just put a few squirts of the UB on his wetty in the car park and problem solved just sit back and wait for the news headlines.

Whats this ultra-bite stuff:eek: ......... is the same as all the rest or a slight variation, i got garlic stuff spike it, slime it spray, and looks like i`ll be adding ultra bite - now I'll need 3 hands to apply it all, so what your saying is your softies don`t go n the water without some type of scenting. But what it comes down to is regardless of whether it works, just gotta have it.
cheers

Whats the best way to apply the liquid to plastics? Also would it be an idea as it doesnt have a very big scent to mix it with other products, I notice on there www site they have some premixed with anchovie oil?

Hey Adam, thanks for the tip about soaking the s/p's. Had that exact same thought myself and will get some soaking for Tuesday .... hitting Patto!
If U/b softens the s/p's, how long would they last 'soaking' before they would be unusable?
Enjoying the AFC series.
Cheers mate ..... Phil Smallman (wheelchair)

G'day Phil,
I don't think they will ever become unusable! It doesn't brake the plastics down it just 'softens' it.
Ecogear make a product called Power Oil which is just a softener.
Or as the bottle reads! > For plastic worm soaked
oil make soft & more bite!
Gotta love that asian slang!!!!
So go nuts with your Ultrabite mate!
It's great gear!!
Cheers
Royter
PS. don't let the cat or dog near it!! Or next thing you know you'll be servin it up to 'em in a shot glass!!
Thay LOVE it!!!!!

I heard a story from one of the sales reps (a mate of mine), where they fed up a barra in a fish tank until it wouldn't eat any more, then they tossed in a prawn laced with ultrabite. apparently it went nuts and tried to eat anything for the next 10 minutes.
The first time I used it with plastics (soaked for 24hrs) I got 4 squire in 5 casts. It was noticable that I most often caught fish in the first 5 or 6 casts with a new tail on - so it does seem to wash off a bit. Mixing it with a gel type attractant may improve its ability to stick. There is a spray version arriving in March that I'd like to try too.
I've sold a fair bit of it, but its a bit too early for feedback yet. The only 'problem' I have had with ultrabite was when I tested it baitfishing, I got a lot of deeply hooked fish and small fish that somehow manage to get large hooks way down. They really wanted those baits badly! Circle hooks are definitely the way to go with this stuff.
My little trials hardly qualify as scientific, but when you get success straight away when using something new, it tends to make you an instant convert. I'll be using it on all my plastics from now on.
Cheers

Nice work Duncs,
Yeah look,! I'll be using it cause it seems to improve results and there for confedance but in all honesty, it will take me 6 to 12 months to get a grip of it!!

I've been slowly lacing my sandworm, nipper and tuna oil blend with the saltwater for a few weeks now, its making a noticeable difference to the aggressiveness of the hits, Im getting alot less small suck and runs and more "manly" attacks on my plastics. I've also added it to about a 1/3rd of a bottle of craw/gamefish spikeit , can't say that its made that much difference, never can really tell with spikeit.

Just some advice with the soaking, I keep all my sliders in a handy little tackle box segregated , they where initially "laced" with ultrabite and its never been washed off. The transparent colors, IE Muscadine Slider, Cotton Candy, PumpkinSeed are now no longer transparent they have taken on a more solid color. There was only ultrabite on the plastics, worth noting is that its possibly been on them for nearly a month now so take the advice with a grain of salt.
