I have gotten a fare bit of dosh for Christmas and just wanted to know what people think are the really importent things you shouldnt leave home without when goin fishing?
I got the rod, reel, line and plyers a nippers covered just other things like lures, scents and jigheads and other things like that.
After i get the Daiwa Laguna and the book on how to get bream on lure and fly ill have about $200 and ill probly be getting a $50-$80 fly reel with that $200 as well but thats not for sure yet.

I thought i would get alot less for Christmas and i had planned what i would spend my money but now i have gotten more i really dont know what to get. I suppose i could just blow it all on lures hahaha;)

If you don't already have them a set of polarised sun glasses would be a good investment. You can get them from about $25.oo

Get the BREAMIN I & II dvd? Or the Squidgy DVD? Should be a worthwhile investment. ;)

haha... the things you can buy for fishing are endless... Like a new digital camera, some good polarised sunnies(spotters, maui jim, etc), lip grip with scales(for measuring those big mama breams), a good fishing bag for all those lures, etc... the list goes on and on...

Well i think this is what im gonna get.

Daiwa Laguna 2000

Bream on Lures and Flies

River2sea Shed 60 the gold and orange

Berkley Fireline 125yd Spool - 8lb Smoke

Slider 1.5" - Hot Pink

Slider 1.5" - Glow Minnow

Slider 3" - Camouflage

Slider 3" - Glo

Berkley Vanish Flurocarbon Line (250 yd) - 12lb

Rebel Teeny Wee Deep Craw - Stream Crawfish

What do u think? The hevier line is for bigger fish like salmon, pinkies and maybe the odd small mullaway obviously not bream.

Mate, one question: Why would you get the 2000 Laguna and not the 1500?

And go the 4lb FLAME GREEN Fireline, not 8lb SMOKE.

Have fun buying the goodies..

Cheers

At the bottom of the list of stuff im getting i wrote why im getting the 8lb fireline because ill be chasing some bigger fish like Salmon, pinkies and the acational small mullaway.

Also you think the 2000 model is too big for bream?
cos i want to be able to handle the odd big fish.

hey dagga, trust me if if you wont get the 4lb, get the 6lb flame it is light yet you will land every thing on it as well as the 1500 reel which is perfect for every rthing iv landed 7lb mullaway on 4lb f/line which was easy, but its up to you really its your money.

I got 4lb pound alread but cos i get a free spool with my laguna i thought id get 8lb as ill be taking my small rod out on the boat in deep water once and a while so ill exspect some snapper if its possible to land one on my little stella lol

And the reel i still dont know. The laguna looks like a small reel as it is so i thought by going the 2000 model it wouldnt hurt???

Note that the 1500 and 2000 size Laguna reels are identical bodies. The only difference is the size of the spool.

i second Tony Ireland on the polaroid glasses. it's a MUST have fishing equipment. without it you are like fishing blind. opens a whole new dimension to your fishing (and learning)

never leave home without your polariser, and the world looks so much prettier!

make sure you get bronze coloured lens as they bring out the best contrast for water.

I agree with the above and you should get lower poundage fireline. It'll break higher than its rated weight any howz. If you must go higher than go the 6lb. I know of someone who landed an estimated 15kg mulloway with his bream stick and 6lb fireline. He reckoned it never got more than 100m of fireline off the spool.
Search for the thread called Mulloway Mania 2. If you are confident in targeting and finding anything bigger than that you'd probably be using much heavier duty gear altogether.

Hmm well i just thought i might as well go 8lb just incase there something big lurking around that i wanna have a go at.

Oh and Swanke i have asked Geoff if he can get me any polaroids for around $100 so yeh hopefully ill have a pair soon. Just hope i can get glass ones for that price.

WARREN

i spent thirty dollars on my polaroids. (the best) do the same job as $100 ones.
who needs fashion when fishn

DAGGA

Warren i dont mean this in a smart way but have you used used both exspenciv and cheapos to know the difrence?
Cos i im thinking of getting glass ones so they dont scratch as easely but if there not worth it theres not point on spending a fortune.:(
When i could be spending it on those ecogear scented capsules or more lures cos you know you could never have anough. :p

What do you use Swanke?

WARREN
15-01-2004, 09:53 AM
all i can say to that is yep
all i did was cry when i broke my two hundred and thirty seven dollars and 99 cents pollies

DAGGA
15-01-2004, 10:05 AM
ahhh its hard soo many people say get good ones because there better stronger and better for your eyes then others say the cheaper ones do the same job :(
yeh maybe i should go with some like $50 polaroids and get a dimond sharpener and Ecogear Scent capsules.
I got nothing better then fishing to spend my money on (still my Chrismas and Birthday money)

anything can happen
they might last five years or five days

Don't forget every top line company sell cheaper products with the same quality parts.for half the price (sorry most)
you just need to know where to look...
as they need to sell to the poor man aswell.or they go broke
just read most fine prints and warranty
made by the big BRAND name

Just picked up a pair of 'arial' brand in the gold lens from the servo, polarised, 25 bucks. I wanted to see if the gold was as good as people reckon. It was amazing how much better they are than any of my grey lenses.
