Baitcast reel for bream

Honestly, I saw that Millionnaire reel series and would have bought one except for the name. I couldn't bear to have one that said that on it. :D

I do love my little Shimano Cronarch for flipping out tiny lures, its a DohDohDohDohDoh on a windy day, but its such a beautiful reel to fish with.

ive got a culcutta 50 which will flick around the 52 scorps no worries. the line that ive got on it is way too heavy at for bream fishing so im not sure about casting 1/16 jigs (never tried) - it also depends on the rod that you are using as well.

the only thing that i dont like about it is to change the line you have to respool the reel insted of swaping the spools over like you do with a spinning reel

I use my Jarvis walker with a super light rod and seem to have no trouble chucking light hardbodies even with 4 kilo line.

I use an ABU 3000 Tournament, it casts the sinking Scorpion 35 a reasonable distance, haven't tried a softie yet, if your looking for a suitable rod have a look in the classifieds on this site.

I have two Daiwas, a CVX 103 and a TDS 105H (shipped in from Japan), both oiled with rocket fuel. These are used on a 5' 10" Shimano Miller Ultralite Bass rod and a 7' custom Loomis S842-2 (which is designed to cast 2-9g). Although I can cast 2-3g lures a distance of 10-15m under ideal conditions on either outfit, its a DohDohDohDohDoh when the wind gets up. Not worth the pain in my opinion, though I much prefer to use a baitcaster for lures weighing 5g or more (eg Manns 5+, Tilsan Bass etc). I have never seen anyone throw ultralight bream lures successfully with a baitcaster unless it's dead calm.

Let me know if you find a baitcaster combo that does the job - I'll buy one!

Shimano Scorpion 1000/1001 is meant to be one of the best light lure casters around. Just ask around on any US BASS forum. It'll cost you just under $300 from ProFishing.net, or quite a bit more from the Compleat Angler over east...

The Scorpion is now available out here I believe. Compleat Angler were advertising it if my memory serves me well (which it never does). This reel gets great wraps in the US for throwing light lures, but it has the big disadvantage of a wiffle spool. Not so good for salt, as water gets to the bearings. Can use tape to rectify this, but this adds weight to the spool.

I only order top end stuff from Japan (mainly reels). The savings can be huge, but not all models are cheaper. I use http://www.plat.co.jp/english/english_top.htm. The English is somewhat garbled, but the service is excellent.

Send them an email to confirm they have EXACTLY what you want. Mr Harada is the man I dealt with. To pay, just transfer money to their account at the bank - my reel was shipped within 1/2 hour of doing the transfer.

If the goods are shipped by airmail, you are unlikely to cop import duty if the value is < A$1000. If the goods are shipped by air courier (Fedex etc) then no customs duty will be charged if the total taxes come to less than $50, ie

(0.05xValue + Value +Postage)x0.1 + 0.05xValue < $A50

I got mine sent by PLATs normal EMS airmail and it arrived in 3 days. The total cost for the money transfer and postage was $50, but I still saved over $200 on the reel.

i have a CV-X 103, it was my original bream reel of choice (along with bass) back when i firt got into bream lureing...before i went to a threadlne reel
had no problems throwing HB's like the old faithfull Attacks with it all day, since added the SOL baitcaser when they first came out (princably the same as the pixy's and alphas) and again even better, i can swing a 1/32 oz rigged SP in most conditions no worries...so my CV-X is now living on my bas stick and the SOL goes with me on most boating bream trips...
