Hi Everyone
I would just like to share my recent experience with my 7 month old 3ltr GU patrol. For the first time I this holidays I was able to take the patrol out of the city for its first road trip from Brisbane to Cairns. The drive up went well but on the day after we arrived the clutch on my patrol started to slip and within 5km the patrol was totaly immobalised and unable to be moved a few mtrs let alone limp to the nearest dealer. After a 5km walk i managed to get some service on the phone and called roadside assist who were very helpfull and had the car towed to the Cairns dealer that same afternoon so i thought ok some bad luck but Nissan will take care of it.. well that did not end up being the case. I was informed a week later that Nissan would not cover the clutch under warrenty and given a $4000 bill for another standard clutch and by this time i was allready meant to be back in Brisbane at work the day before. I had no choice but to pay up and thought i will take this up with my local dealer who i purchased it off and Nissan Australia as soon as i get home. I went to see the dealer i purchased it from and they were helpfull and said they would recomend it was a warrenty issue also but once it went back to nissan Australia they denied me my claim once again. Just to put this in perspective this Patrol has been offroad twice in its short life once in bribie and once in straddie and has only ever towed my small alloy boat to the ramp once or twice a month. In my past I have put over 330 000 on old manual pajero and have never burnt out a clutch in any other vehicle. I have now lost all faith in this vehicles reliability and will deffinatly not be recomending or purchasing new car again from Nissan.
Thanks for reading.
Tristan

Hey Tristan,
I would suggest that you go back to Nissan Australia directly, if you have no luck with customer service write to the MD of Nissan Austrlaia and express your concern.
$4k is $4k even if they meet you on the parts side of things, might be enough to then advertise it and go back to a Mitsubishi, or better still a Subaru ;)

I have also had trouble with Nissan but in the end they came to the party..... I had my diff blow up at 70k and they wanted me to take it back to kalgoolie where the car was brought from and I'm a day drive away from there so finally they let it go local dealer but not only that but they put the wrong tow hitch on too so they had to change tha...... But yes go to Nissan in person or write a letter to consumer affairs they will soon step in

Cheers
Haydo

unfortunatley they call the 3L "the granade" for a reason ..... but i've not heard of a clutch going that quickly before. (i have the 4.8L auto)

assuming you have not visited this one already.

If Nissan Australia won't come to the party get the media involved. The Herald Sun in Melbourne has a motoring section with people always complaining about 3lt Nissan's but mostly the older models. I'm sure the paper in Brisbane would have something similar. It's amazing what negative press and bad branding can do to make a large organisation change their minds. Good luck.

regardless of outcome 4g for a clutch replacement is excessive

That su*ks....

My friend had the same issue with his 2011 Navara 4x4... Clutch went within 1st year (not sure, may 25K Kms?).... and wasnt covered under warranty either! Cost him $3-4K as well!

Was considering a Nissan 4x4 when my lease is up in May, but now will be looking elsewhere... (toyota, mitsubishi or even a jeep!)

seems like nissan are not after repeat business from the way they treat their customers after the have forked out there hard earned. Here is a guy a mate of mine seen at the local boat ramp.. looks like he is not a happy customer either.
