Reel size and leaders?????

Why do all bream fisherman buy small reels. I just bought a diwa laguna 4000 but now i have noticed you all use around 2000. Did i buy the wrong reel???????. Wouldnt a biger reel be better as you can hold more line???? Or do the small reels cast better.

When i got my reel i bought some 8lb super braid (i think its a playtpuss brand) is that to heavy. And why should i use a leader and what poundage should it be.

oh and for some reason when the guy put on my line he teid this weird knot where he like plaited the lline so at the end there is a large loop. why did he do this???

MISH, put simply, small reel = light weight for constant casting.
Line capacity doesn't matter as bream will usualy just try to get to the nearest cover.
Your 4000 spooled with 8lb, will do the job but you may find it tireing if casting constantly. Most people on this site use 4-8lb.
I have a general purpose outfit spooled with the playtapus braid, and i quite like the line, (6kg I think it is). As for the leader, it's not critical but it may increase your catch rate, you can use mono or flurocarbon, search the forums for all the different points of view. The "big loop" tied in the end of your line sounds like a plaited double, used to absorb shock. You can attatch a leader straigh to it, again, do a Forum search. It's all there.

hey mish,

i think everybody buys small reels simply cos' they are lighter and easier to cast with that a big bulky reel. i don't think it matters how much line you have on the reel because the most distance that you would be casting would be at most 30 metres or so, so if you have a bout 100 metres of line on your reel i think that it would be alright.

8 pound may be a bit heavy as most guys use 4 pound fireline in flame green. you will notice a huge increase in your acsting distance if you have the fireline on. its, sweet:p

you should use a leader simply because you don't want the fish to see your braid and mono has a bit more abrasion resistance than braid, i would use anywhere from 4 or 6 pound if the fish are spooked and timid, and 6-12 pound for snags and around bridge pilons, i think 6 or 8 pound is a good comprimise between all this.
