G'day members, it's NASRULLAH here, how's the Breamin' been? I don't post here often, but I've got a question that I thought I'd bring to this site first.
I'm looking to make the class jump from a relaxed bait fisherman to a serious sports fisho & begin targeting Bream on lures of all descriptions.
So, is there a better allround lure rod than the new Shimano Raider series?
I've never even picked up a Raider, what type of action do they have?
What do you guys use?
Cheers, Nas.

Welcome Nas! Good to see you here!
The rod that you would buy would depend a lot on how much you would like to spend! As I mentioned to you on the other site I have a Wilson Live Fibre rod that I use for Bream. It isnt the Lightning series...but a new one. Its called a Surecaster WSC601. Its brilliant...but it also set me back $250 plus!! I dont really think the raider would be in the same league as any of the rods the boys here use!
Apparently the Stella and Squidgy Spin from Shimano are popular! Or even the Daiwa Heartlands and Procasters!
All depends on money!
By the way Nas, love the pic on the bottom. Would look great on the side of a boat.
Don't suppose you have a bigger (higher res) version of it I could use??
The main problem you have is that there is no such thing as a perfect alround lure casting rod:) different rods for different styles of lure, hard bodies, softs, spinner baits, slices, poppers and so on.

OK guys, it sounds like you want specifics before you'll put your integrity on the line. Well...here goes;
I'm looking for the highest quality graphite/graphite composite rod with a medium action, rated at 2-4kg that'll cast 3-15g lures, has a fast taper, short butt grip covered in cork & all for under $200.
Does such a rod exist?
I don't need the absolute best rod, just a DAMN FINE one!
Ofcourse I've already got a selection of rods, I'm just trying to find a good quality, medium action spinning out fit.
BTW Jocool, the Shimano Raider rods superseeded the two popular Shimano models that you mentioned, so I'm guessing that they are the improved version.
Id speak to the guys in the Breammaster store about the new Custom made Samurai Blanks which are being made through the store. Just under 200 dollars and I think they'll do the job.
Either call GeoffP in the shop on 92710555, ot PM Ira Fehlberg through this site. They should have the details for you.

Thanks for the suggestion Kingpin, but I've never built a rod, so when I'm chasing a rod for a specific task, I buy off the rack if there is a rod that suits. I do have one custom rod, but it's more of an allrounder for the types of fishing that I do.
The rod gets made for you through BM...
You get to choose the colours of the binding, choice of guides, you can have your name on it, etc...
Its all on Samurai 6ft blanks i think (might be 6'6")

It helps to read a post right through & not switch off when you read "Samurai Blanks".

Mate have a look at the Black Diamond Bluestone rods. A fantastic rod they are currently selling for $195. Built on the Forecast blank with quality Fuji components and cork grips.

I've got two of these rods and could not be happier with their performance,
