Hey mate, it really depends on what type of accomodation you are looking for. When the Tournies are on most fellas stay at Shady Gully van park. If your looking for a hotel there are a heap to choose from and if your looking for something a bit more up market then i would really recommend the accomodation right at Gypsy Point. You can launch your boat out the front and lovely spot.

There's also the Foreshore Holiday Park, which is run by the local council. It's right on the water and you can even pay a bit extra to have your very own jetty where you can tie up your boat.

I stayed at this park just recently and it's a good spot. You're right on the water. The views are fantastic and you're a stone's throw from the shops. It can get a bit windy there at times, which is the only drawback.

I don't think they have any cabins or caravans for hire. It's just simple camping. They have both powered and unpowered sites.

Thanks guys, I will check them out. What do you guys normally do regarding tying boat up and leaving it say for lunch, take all valuables out and put in car or maybe put the cover back on (out of sight out of mind)?

The crime rate at Mallacoota is very low, but I wouldn't tempt fate by leaving expensive stuff lying about. I always lock my expensive gear away in the car when it's not in use. You do see a lot of people who leave their gear unattended though.

Yeah Nah, don't go leaving your gear lying around, there are SOME unfortunatate people in Coota that would probably jump at the chance for some expensive fishing gear.

Lock it away just to be on the safe side.

I used to stay at Karbeethong until it became hip and expensive and they used to have access to the jetty directly in front of it near Karbeethong jetty. Now we stay at Mallamaurice which is near the police station and simple but good no frills accommodation. If you are going to fish the top lake a fair bit it will pay to launch at the Karbeethong jetty opposed to the jetty in town to save time and fuel in your boat plus you don't have to navigate any shallow water or have speed restrictions like in town.

God's own country.... Mallacoota. Helps that the locals are amongst the friendliest people you could hope to meet. The place I stayed at is Ballymena and they run holiday units which is simple but has everything you'd want. They have an area you can hose down your boat too. The owners stay on site and their customer service is great. Just to give you an example, when I was there, I soaked my mobile phone and it died. I badly needed a means of communications so I asked them if they knew where I could buy cheap mobile phones ie. second hand or cheap prepaid but the local post office was closed so instead, they lent me a mobile phone they had as a spare. Because I was moving on to Marlo after doing the Coota run, the let me borrow the phone until i got to Melbourne and I sent it back by mail after that. No extra charge for that either. Genuinely helpful people. Going back to Coota again next year and there's no prizes for guessing where I'll be staying at. Added bonus, the owner, George, fishes from his boat too and he uses lures as well and so he'll know where they are biting.
