Just settling a debate with a mate about Bream in the Parra and Lane Cove rivers in summer. he maintains that the best season for Bream is the winter months when they move upstream to spawn. he reckons that the bream fishing in these waters is crap come summer.
Can any experienced Parra/Lane C. breamers confirm?

I don't think there is a bad time for the Parra River. In winter you will tend to get bigger fish but not as many, while in summer you will more fish, but a tad smaller in size.
Winter fishing is harder because the water is gin clear at times, but the odd 50cm+ fish does come along, along with those drag screamin trevally that seem to sort out the men from the boys :D.
During summer sessions, some of the regulars can get up to 50 odd fish a day.
Anytime is a good time

Ive found bigger numbers present during the warmer months with Feb-March being the most productive. Bigger fish are available in the cooler months Apr-May when the fish start to head down stream and out in to the ocean to breed. But there are fish in the system all times of the year, it never shuts down.

Hi,
Yep, I think the other guys are right. Yellowfin (silver) bream usually spawn downstream in winter whereas southern (black) bream spawn upstream, usually in the spring to early summer months.

i still have not caught myself a nice big bream
biggest ive caught is about 20 cm, at Chipping norton lake.
At parrmatta i have only caught big flathead, which i hate, because flathead are ugly little bastards and look like half lizard half shark.
Hopefull if i go this weekend, ill get myself a bream :D
bit off topic, but anyway

Like Fatman and Mick have stated - it depends if you're after quantity or quality.
Winter definately brings on the larger fish but Summer brings them out in greater numbers. Summer also tends to bring on tailor and flathead so casualty rate of SP greatly increases, and like Fatman has said, those trevally that come along in winter are great fun !!! :D :D
