hello i am pretty new to fishing , and to this board
I have many questions about using sp
Firstly i am fishing on land/jetties/wharfs, can i use a normal running rig with a sp ? ( dont no if thats a stupid question)
two i have tried sp with leaders and jig heads , now i know there is a tiny sinker ontop of the jig head but my point is i cant get my line to cast far, it goes 3 - 4 metres max sometimes not even so therefore it is pointless to me if i am trying to cast out to a spot where i think there is fish or even try to cast out over the sea weed , Thats why i am asking can i use a running rig with a sinker swiwel, is there no point to using the running rig with a sp ?

could i add a small sinker to the top of the jig head? all will that just stuff up the chance of me getting a fish. " will the fish see the sinker and swim away" ?
I know this mite be stupid questions but can u please just help me.
If there is another ways to make me cast further please suggest it to me and i will try it.

I have a cheap rod (jarvis walker) had it for about 7 years and a jarvis walker reel i am goin to upgrade soon but i dont see the point untill i get more experience with this type of fishing ( sp )

all my life i have use prawns and various other baits but now getting into sp because it is less stressfull and seems to work just as good ,I seem to be always thinking that is the prawn still on after 1 minute and i hate the mess involved wit the prawns and other baits.

You're first problem with casting may be helped a lot more if you look at using braid or fireline instead of straight mono. Makes a HUGE difference. If you can, hook up with some of the guys from the site and have a look at the outfits they use to get an idea of what may suit you best.

Gday

and even if you aint got enough money for the braids buy some 2kg mono like platypus pretest or super 100. There not as good as braids but they work pretty well.

Hi Bad,
Mate if you have the money invest in a Spinning rod and reel.
I started as you are now and believe me the extra few bucks goes along way.I have a procaster x rod 6ft and a daiwa regal z reel, not to expencive but makes the world of difference.
Pick up some fireline in green, some inexpencive leader 6-8 lbs and you will never look back, trust me.
good luck let us know if you need any more info;)

Well first up try a really light line of about 4lb-6lb if ur not allready??
Eventually if u really start to like save up for a better rod and a reel can come later when u can afford it.
I started off with a really really dodgy rod it was one of those little kid starter pack things only rod i had that could cast light lures around and all my other (GOOD rods) were too bolky.

Fire line is great and STRONG!!!!!! the first thing i got was fireline and it improved casting alot then i got a new rod and now i just gotta get a good reel.
Just start saving and ull love the feeling of casting lures out a mile!

I know if ur around my age (14) its hard to save money and it toulk me about 2 months to get my Stella rod but its soo worth it!!!:D
if u carnt afford a good rod and want to get into it right away get a rod that is thin and flexeble even if its only one of those little cruddy ones it will help ur casting until u get a good rod.

Good luck ;)

What do u guys think about me putting a little sink ontop of the jig, it adds a little more weight and i can cast 3 times the distance. Only problem is, will the fish be scared by it ?

Wy do u want to cast so far, the fish will be at your feet either under the jetty or up againt the bank or under the tree roots and branches, the go is to fish as light as possable to catch the bream so unless your fishing a big tide and cant make the bottom fish as light as possable

Hi Bad, mate braid is not going to magicly make you a better caster, not every one uses braid:D .
I think Boofhead makes a good point, you don't need distance around wharfs and jetty, just consentate on jetting your accuracy right.

Cheers Samurai
