G'day,
i just need a bit of help on what bow mount electric motor would be the best for salt water and estuary use? i have a 3.85m stacer and would like to know the best pound thrust for it? What is some feed back on motor guide and min kota? As a first time electric motor user i reckon if i get a tiller steer, i will kick myself later for not getting a bow mount so any help is much appreciated.
Thanks, Luke.
Luke,
If you can afford it at all go straight for a pedal controlled electric. The tillers are a pain in the bum.
I would still look at something like the 55lb thrust MK Riptide or the cable steer MK.

Luke a foot control would definitely be better than tiller. IBear in mind you can still mount a tiller steer on the front with the head reversed if you want to.
Either a Kota or a Motorguide will be fine as a foot control. Motorguides are the less expensive of the two and if you have a search through the forums you will no doubt find some lengthy discussions on their comparative advantages.

thanks for the info guys, always appreciate it. i was thinken a tiller to cut costs, but like i said, i would regret it later for not spending that little bit more to get the pedal.
Thanks, Luke.

Hi Tadpole
longtime no see.... good to see ya back!
on the 385 Stacer any leccie from 40lbs upwards will be sufficient. I only have a 36lb Minn Kota and it's fine in all conditions until the wind starts to get above 20 knots then I make little or no ground into the wind. It will still hold postion. Thats on a 380 Savage Snipe with all the mod cons and a livewell holding 100 litres.
Hey you could just buy a tiller steer and chuck it on the Bow. No need to turn it around the oother way either...
just swith the battery connections to the opposite of what is recommended in the instructions...The prop will then spin hte other way! Isnt that right Uncle Stewie:p

yep reverse the polarity
I think most leccie owners have done that at some stage. I know I did once, went to go left under power but it went right. Not too sure of the long term implications on the motor though... does anyone know the answer as to wether it will damage the motor.
It's not too hard to reverse the direction of the Tiller and for all we know you may prefer to fish from the back so just leave it as is

Enough said young David.
I dont know if it damages the motor or not but it certainly damages the reputation of the operator whewn he cant figure out whats going on
Having had a tiller steer myself and having done through the pain, if you can wait just that bit longer, I'd save up for the bow mount. As soon as the wind comes up it's a pain. You find yourself losing a lot of casting time.

Bear's got a point.
Buy your self a cheap paddle and save your money.
I have had a tiller and am just about to buy a foot controlled bow mount.
After using the bow mount I realised you get double the amount of casts in as you do with the tiller.
Not only do you get more casts you have 2 hands for your retrieve and fighting fish.
