Fireline on Graphite spools.

Just a quick question. I have a second spool for my AV-20 and it is graphite. Is there any truth in the rumour that Fireline cannot be used on graphite spools, even with a mono backing?
I think the reason was that under load, the Fireline can put grooves in the spool!!!
