View Full Version : Stren Magnathin
Lads and Ladies,
Can anyone tell me where I can get some Stren Magnathin leader over the net? I have searched all over Townsville and it aint up here!
I looked in Campbells with no joy either.

Compleat Angler used to have Stren stuff, not now. When I asked was told that things are hard to get/slow. Possibly not a good distributor in Australia?
My Stren leader material is all gone, currently using Maxima Perfexion and liking it.
Hi guys,
I thought Stren magnatin is a fluorocarbon, and maxima perfexion is a mono. Am I right?

We've been around this block before I feel.
"mono" is a contraction of monofilament, meaning single strand.
Nylon, fluorocarbon, polyethylene, glass, etc can all be formed as a monofilament. "Mono" is not a pseudonym for Nylon. Mono is to distinguish the way the material is made into a fishing line, mono, braid, fused gelspun, rope laid, etc are forms of construction, not material types.
I think that Sten MagnaThin is a thin for breaking strain co-polymer. http://www.stren.com/line_magnathin.htm
Stren do make fluorocarbon leader material.

I note that the Stren website seems to use "mono" as a pseudonym for Nylon and/or co-polymer, it is still wrong ;-)
Maxima Perfexion is definately not a fluorocarbon, it is most likely a co-polymer, again it is thin for breaking strain, I find it softer than the MagnaThin and nicer to work with, it would be less abrasion resistant though I think, it doesn't have the hard skin of the MagnaThin.
I hope that helps.
