Is there any reason to using say a 4lb main line and 4lb leader compared to 8lb main and 4lb leader.
The only reason I can think of is to fit more line on your spool? Is that about it?
Obviously the reason we use flourocarbon leaders is so the fish cant see the line, what does it matter what size the main line is if the leader is the most important part?
Just a question i thought id ask

Thinner Main line can improve casting distance through guides.
Also improve wind friction on windy days
Also thinner mainline improves water tension against line
If fishing deeper water.
I feel thinner mainline help in seeing bite/feel
Detection

depends what main line your using.. if using a rod and reel for sp and hb the reason you use 4lb main line is to cast the light weighted lures with ease.. trying to cast these lures with 15lb main line will be a lot harder to cast those lures.

Also when flats fishing etc, I like to think that thinner line is less likely to spook fish, especially with clear water.
Another advantage of fluoro straight through
