View Full Version : Sept 4th 2011 SABT
Our next event is in Sept and I suspect that a few guys might use it as a pre-fish for the ABT which will follow 2 weeks after.

So is this a constant thing or only the result of badgering for this event? Reason being that it pretty much spells the end of my tournie days if its ongoing.

Why would this be the case? I am interested to know the reasons behind this.
In my eyes it surely it eases pressure on a waterway that is clearly underpressure, from underrecruitment, recreational fishing pressure, industry, environmental collapse and legislation (have you seen the ever increasing list of no-go zones)
In addition to this Black Bream are not a truely resident fish in most of our estuaries, they exit the system and hug the coast. This has been known for some time, but still tournaments have been held in Winter. It was better some years ago as a solid population of residents seemed to at least provide some joy in the winter period. My theory on these fish disappearing is they have been removed from the system.
If Nothing else CK, I won;t be following you around anymore.....
if Shauno wishes to identify himself as the main instigator/supporter in the boundary changes thats up to him. However, here is what I posted on another site:
most of you would be aware that we set this year's SABT event 2 at a time to coincide with the last day to pre-fish for the Sept ABT event. Our rationale was that it might boost the numbers at the SABT event as competitors may use our event as a pre-fish for the ABT.
A last minute decision by the ABT to extend the Port River event boundaries has had the affect of forcing the SABT to match this change in event boundaries. Otherwise competitors that may have used the SABT event as a pre fish will not enter. These competitors may just go off and do their own thing and pre-fish anyway, without supporting SABT.
Darryl and I have come to this decision realising that it will affect competitors, however for the future of the SABT we feel that we have been left with no alternative.
On a positive note it may offer up more opportunities

Bigger Bags.... Better Comps.
Definitely has potential for 10 keg plus bags.
Prefish time (late notice) is my only gripe but happy otherwise.
Hopefully it stays.

Simple, cant get out to pursue my other interests during the prefish ban, like I can / could when we had the smaller boundaries.
pre fish ban is only 5 days Mon to Fri for SABT. 2 weeks for ABT is a problem, considering their ban includes any linked waterways. By my understanding that means all of Gulf St Vincent may be out.
Again, don't see this as a problem for SABT.
